OK Norwegian Cruisers: Never being on a FREESTYLE cruise before how do you compare the entertainment "SHOWS" to the other cruiselines? Also since their is no set time for dinning do they offer more then one show a night like the other lines do ? My former expeariences were to dine then go to the show either early or late since they had 2 a night. Also do they do MIDNIGHT shows for the adults ? Did I read in a post that they offer a midnight buffet and also do they have a 24 hour snack bar area? Finally if anyone has any information saved on the daily activities aboard and would care to post them, it would be appreciated............

Tropdaddy,

Just on the NCL Spirit. They did for the most part have two shows a night if you are talking about the broadway style shows. I think there was one night that they only had 1 show, but its all in the freestyle daily, so you can plan accordingly. They also had midnight or late shows for adults only, but I think it was only a comedian style show. To my knowledge the Spirit did not have a 24 hour buffet to eat at. All NCL ships have the Blue Lagoon. You can get burgers, fries, soups, wings, and a few other things 24 hours a day so there is no need for the buffet. You also have room service, but it kinda stunk on the spirit so I dont know what its like on other NCL ships. I would imagine the menu would be similar on other NCL ships.

Let's see now:

Entertainment: yes, with rare exception there will be 2 shows nightly and NCL is considered to be one of the better lines for shows. I don't always agree but the entertainment certainly is as good as other lines. Yes, there often is adult entertainment around midnight in one of the bar areas.

A midnight buffet? No, but the do offer a mini buffet in the casion around 11pm nightly. It is usually tastety and about like you would get at cocktail buffet. Dips, fruit, maybe small sandwhiches etc. You don't have to be gambling to partake of the snacks. As for other places for 24/7 food, Scott said all NCL ships have Blue Lagoon. This isn't totally correct. All the newer ones do except the Sun. They do serve sandwhiches, fish and chips etc in the sports bar starting about 7pm until what time I don't know.

I have never heard of anyone going hungry on a ship nor have I heard many complaints about the entertainment. Nita

I am prejudiced because my son often plays trumpet with the NCL show bands, but NCL has great shows-normally two a night. the Jean Ryan dance company is exceptionally good. You will not be disappointed. Freestyle dining is great too. You give up a little of the antics-like flaming baked Alaska parades by the waiters, but it's well worth the convenience.

Talking about things like flaming Alaska and singing wait staff, for me that isn't anything I really enjoy anymore. The first few cruises, yes, now I have turned my attention to lots of other fun things. Give me a good meal, one where I decide what time I want to eat, a nice relaxed wait staff that will see to it I have everything I need, but won't kiss up to me just to get a big tip at the end of the week, add to that some nice evening entertainment and my cruise is complete. To each his own. Nita

First of all thanks Scott for the list of food items available after hours and the information on the shows. I heard that NCL has a great entertainment director and the shows are super good...............

NEWMEXICONITA: You have the best information and know how to share it. I wonder what the cruiselines will do if these hurricanes wash out these ports they are suppose to vist? I live in Florida so I don't want to cruise to key west instead of Honduras if they have to make changes. Has anyone ever had to face this problem before? Lets here what they did for you if you have ok ???

During or after the storm?

I'v enever been on a cruise with a change in itinerary due to stormy weather. But last winter My ship tendered instead of docking at Cozumel because the pier was washed away. It probably would have been better to just stay at sea an extra day. Who wants to see destruction?

I am new to this message board but have a question. My family is comsidering a ncl cruise to bermuda in october 2008. My question is about the casino and shops. On the cruise we are looking at, the ship is docked overnight for 2 nights. Will the casino or shops be open while docked?

Not while docked in Bermuda. The only ports I've ever read NCL ship casinos remaining open at are in the Bahamas. Although that's something I've never experenced. The Gambling laws differ country by country, it'll be impossible to meet them in every port.

The shops are duty free, tax free shop. Again, since every country has different taxation laws, it's another impossible task to meet the tax laws of every port the ship visits.

The casino and shops will be open when the ship is at sea.
