Hi everyone my dh, ds14, dd11 and me are planning our first cruise. We are doing a week long cruise at the end of March on Freedom of the sea. I have a few questions.

I know that son can be left alone to do the 12-14 year old activities but can my dd be left alone at the adventure club? Do they run things in the evening for her age group?

My dh and I are looking at doing the wine series at Portofino and are wondering if it is worth the cost?

Having never cruised we are nervous if there will be enought to keep everyone happy for a week.

Thanks

Cathy:)

If you take me serious, it's your problem
welcome cathy and family...

RCCL has Adventure oceans program for children. there are alot of activities to keep them occupied. They also have a teen disco, and arcade for kids to enjoy on most RCCL ships. If you are concerned for their safety, and want to communicate with them i would reccomend getting two way radios(walkie talkies). It's a great way to keep in touch while letting them explore and do their own thing while you do your own thing.. I have seen many families using them on the enchantment on my last cruise. I think wal-mart even sells water resistant ones(in the event they are in the pool area).

http://www.walmart.com/search/searc...earch_query=two+way+radios&Find.x=21&Find.y=1 <--- link to walmart two way radio page.

Not sure if that is something you might want to consider, but it does seem like a good way to keep in touch as a family while on board...

also best buy sells them also, and has a better selection than wal-mart..

Welcome Cathy.

You are going to have a wonderful time, and as others have already said, there will be more than enough activities of every description to keep your family well entertained. By all means ask lots of questions here as they occur to you.

You won't be bored if that is what you are worried about! There are so many options you won't know what to cut out! Never been on that ship but sailed wtih RCCL twice and thought we were treated like Royalty!

Welcome. You are going to love the Freedom. She is a beautiful ship. Plenty to do to keep the entire family happy. I have photos of the Freedom in my link below. She is a beauty.

I have never purchased the wine package so I cannot help you there. Have a great cruise.

Kathy - Welcome! You sure picked a winner for your first cruise. There's so much to do on Freedom that it will be hard for you to do everything in a week.

Both your DS and DD will have a blast in Adventure Ocean. My grandkids can't get enough of it and beg to be allowed to spend more time there.

We too have never done the wine dinner at Portofino, but have had dinner there. It was fabulous! The steak is to die for and the seafood skewer is fantastic.

You have a few months to get ready and plan for your cruise. If you have any additional questions, ask away.

Welcome Cathy to the world of cruising and to Cruise Addicts.....

The Freedom is gonna be so much fun for you and the kids..........you wont see it all in a week! And at times, you wont even realize you're out at sea.........just remember to not try to do it all........give yourself some time to just relax and enjoy!!

Never did the wine series so cant help you there, but hey ,how can you go wrong when you're talking Italian food and wine!!

I've never been on FOS but been on AOS and that one I loved so FOS will have even more things I would assume.

Didn't do the wine dinner but just did dinner at Portofino and that was EXCELLENT! So I would suggest at least that.

You picked a great cruise line and a spectacular ship!

The kids will have so much fun they won't want to get off the ship!

When our kids were that age, they did go to the evening activites with no problems.

We are going on the Liberty in Feb., I'll try to see what's going on in the Adventure Club and post here when I get back.

Cathy - Seeing all these positive responses, I hope it puts your mind at ease over this cruise. Your kids will love it and so will you and your husband. The Freedom is a really fun ship to be on. One word of advice - Don't miss the parades. They will blow your mind! Definitely something that you will never see on another cruise line.

Now you've got me wanting to book Freedom again!

Hi there,
I sailed last December on the Freedom with my dh, ds16,ds14 and ds 11. We also sailed with two other families and there were 11 children in all. Let me just say they had the time of their lives. There were things to keep them busy all day and all night long. In fact, we did not do or see all there was to do and see in 1 weeks time. The ship is huge and wonderful. The shows are amazing, I would suggest not to miss one, including the ice shows. Amazing! We absolutely love Mr. Spacey the cruise director. he was the best!!

It was our first time as a family on a cruise and on the Freedom to boot. Let's just say we had such a great time that the week after the cruise we were very depressed. lol
We want to go back on the cruise. There are a lot of cruise deals out there, but after being spoiled on the Freedom, I really don't think that other ships could measure up to our standards.

Have a Fantastic time!!
