Looks like a nice place to spend some time. I've been lurking for about a week and decided to join in the discussions. I LOVE crusing - almost as much as I love food, so I hope I'll fit right in here.

I'm a chef at a N.O. restaurant, and I live in the French Quarter. Right now, I'm biding my time until the restaurant re-opens, but my apartment didn't have any damage, just debris in the courtyard...and I'm running around here every day trying to help with some of the cleanup. None of us locals have given up, although it's been heartbreaking. Most of us in my neighborhood have lived here for well over 20 years. I was born and raised in the Garden Distict. We love our city, and our French Quarter WILL be back to normal one day.

Hopefully, I can share some of my cruising experiences with y'all.

Hi Blue Chef, and WELCOME! I searched out so many boards, but this one is filled with the friendliest people by far!

Glad to hear that your home was not too damaged and I hope that your life will start returning to normal soon. I can't even imagine what it would be like to go through something like that.

Hi there, I am relatively new here too, glad you survived the hurricane without too much damage. We were supposed to cruise from New Orleans on the 23rd but of course it was all changed and now we go from Galveston. We had booked a hotel for three days in New Orleans but that has gone by the board. I did hear that Conquest will be back in New Orleans the last week of October? doe anyone know if this is true after we spent a fortune on air fare and bus transportation! Take care all happy cruising.Covkid

Hey there Blue Chef, and =welcome This is a great place to get lots of tips about cruising and, well...pretty much everything else!!! :grin

Glad to hear that your apartment was spared....and hope you're back to work soon! :)

My grandmother was born and raised in NO, and my mom was born there. I've not made it there yet, but my immediate family is kicking around the idea of spending Christmas 2006 in the Big Easy. We hope to go to Christmas service at my Grandmother's old church....if it's still there!!! Mom has had a hard time figuring out if it's still standing. (Not from Katrina....just from the evolution of the city. :) ) I'm anxious to visit...and I can't wait to give some of my tourist dollars to your great city!!!

=welcome Blue Chef! I love New Orleans - I'm sure it will come back bigger and better than ever! My hubby has never been to your great city and I look forward to the time when I can show him the French Quarter and explore the garden district. This board is a great place to be when you're not on a cruise. I have learned so much from the great group of cruise @ddicts here. We look forward to your input, BlueChef!

Wow! Thx for the wonderful welcome. Now I'll just scoot around and find some threads to jump into. I love to share my thoughts, but even after so many cruises, I still learn new things from nice folks like y'all.

Hi BlueChef

I'm new here as well. I am impressed with the drive I see and hear about the people who live in NO. With the attitude and energy you all seem to have , I'm sure your city will be rebuilt better than it ever was.

Some day I would love to visit your restaurant and share a meal with you. Better yet I'd like to meet you on a cruise and share a meal with you. You see I love to breath, cruise, and eat. In that order. :)

Courage, all will work out.
