Higher price on new ship worth it?

Have looked at three different RCL ships for a Caribbean Cruise this summer.
Noted that the newer ship, "Liberty of the Seas" - Maiden voyage being May 2007
costs more than the other two ships I have looked at:
"Adventure of the Seas" - Maiden voyage: Nov. 2001
"Grandeur of the Seas" - Maiden voyage: Dec. 1996

I would presume maintenece and quality of service are the same for all RCL ships.
So, is the higher cost worth sailing on the newer ships? (in this case, "Liberty of the Seas").
Any feedback on this is most apriciated. (tu)

You are not exactly comparing apples to apples.

Liberty of the Seas is a Freedom class ship.
Adventurer of the Seas is a Voyager class ship.
Grandeur of the Seas is a Vision class ship.

The Liberty of the Seas is a larger version of the Voyager class ships. The Freedom class ships have a mini water park called the H2O Zone and a surfing simulator called Flowrider that the Voyager class ships do not have. Both have an ice skating rink. The Vision class of ships have none of these. So, what you are paying for is the additional equipment on the ship, not the age of the ship.

=yeah

It isn't the age of the ship, it is all about the size. The bigger the ship, the more activities and amenities are available. We cruised on Navigator of the Seas a few years ago when she was the newest in the Royal Caribbean fleet. It was about a month before Mariner of the Seas began operating out of Port Canaveral. While Navigator was still the newest, she had pretty much the same amenities as Voyager, Explorer and Adventure.

I also cruised on the old Viking Serenade when she was the oldest ship in Royal Caribbean's fleet. I was on her about 4 months before Royal Caribbean retired her. She was a much smaller ship than the Voyager class but she was still in fantastic shape for an older ship.

I just booked two cabins on the Oasis of the Seas, one for me and my husband and one for my parents. For us, it's absolutely worth it. My husband and parents LOVE the big ships and all the activities that come with them. I must admit, I like them too. (Although, my favorite ship ever is the Monarch of the Seas, weighing in at a measly 73,000-ish tons.)

I think it really depends on what your goal is. Obviously, the bigger ships come with bigger loads of people, but to me it's all relative. This next cruise was booked so that we could experience this new ship class. We're going to ports we've been to before, so we plan to enjoy the ship and its offerings. If you're going for the ports, then maybe you won't have as much time for exploring/enjoying the ship. If you just want to relax by the pool and see a show or two, then the bigger ships may not be as much of a draw for you.

I am one that won't pay for the newer ships, or bigger for that matter. But that is JUST me. I prefer the smaller ships, don't rock climb, fun zone etc. The biggest ship I have been on is the Adventure of the Seas, don't get me wrong it was a beautiful ship, I had a great time with the friends who picked the ship, and they love that sort of thing. The ship was just too big for me, and the lines for things gets on my nerves. But I also like the pricing that comes with the smaller, older ships. Only my opinion, and I read the reviews of those who enjoyed the newest, biggest ship and realize we just don't have that much in common. I cruise solo sometimes, just to get away from everything and enjoy a glass of wine and a book on my balcony, more than pool games and loud bands. The great thing about cruising is everyone has a choice, and the variety of options helps us all. BTW I probably enjoy dinner with the new friends I meet more, because of the other solitude I enjoy. I have friends from many cruises who I visit and vist me, and we have reunion non-cruise vacations too. So I am not anti-people LOL, just enjoy some time alone.

Just curious what has been your favorite RC ship so far?
