Helll all -

This is a such a great site! I'm a true cruise addict for sure.

My next cuise is on Celebrity Journey, 5/26 - 6/2 to Bermuda. We've done the Celebrity Bermuda cruise 4 times so far and love it more each time.

I'll be traveling with a large group this time around for a beach wedding and I am getting a ton of questions from all of the newbies.

For some reason, I can't remember Celebrity's policy regarding on-board alcohol purchases. The last time we cruised to Bermuda, my brother purchased rum in the duty free shops and if I am correct, they allowed him to pay a fee to bring the open bottle back to the room. He was then able to enjoy the rum for the remainder of the week. He swears this was the case.

Does anyone know if this is what Celebrity allows and if so, what the fee is, and also if it applies to only certain types of alcohol?

Any help would be appreciated. I don't want to give 30 people the wrong answer.

We were on the Century in March and we could have a bottle of liquor in our stateroom, but you have to go to the reception desk and order it from there; it comes with nuts and 6 soft drinks. We paid $60 US for that package.

We are entitled to bring 2 bottles of wine per stateroom but only at the embarkation.

You are permitted to bring your own wine to dinner and pay a "corkage" fee (which is what your friend is probably referring to). As far as consuming on board purchases, of course you can drink in your own cabin. You just can't tote around a open bottle of rum with you.

UPDATE - as of April 2007, passengers are now permitted to bring up to one case of beer or soda on board with them. I personally think this is a mistake and lowers the class of passengers....but they now allow it.

I just got off the Zenith and they took Alcohol away from those that openly brought it aboard at the start of the cruise. It was returned at the end.

This notice was posted in our daily planner on Infinity, approximately half way through the cruise, just before we hit land. They said they were trying to "acommodate" those who prefer to buy booze/soda on land and bring aboard. I know its NEVER been allowed before. You tell me - permanent change - or one time event? Got me.

As I indicated in previous post, I was on the 4/8/07 Infinity Hawaii cruise and did not see this notice posted in the daily planner. I have looked through the planners and only see the standard Celebrity policy that liquor purchases ashore will be collected at the gangway and that it is against Celebrity policy to consume any on-board duty free purchases.

WHOOPS - Menopause moment...my Dad just told me it was actually another line - either Princess or Carnival, he remembered sending me the e-mail on the article while I was on the infinity, hence my confusion. I never keep my planners. I'm glad it WASN'T Celebrity, that would be sad. Sorry 'bout that!:?

Uh-oh, now I’m getting nervous about my upcoming Celebrity cruise. I love beer!! Does that make me a “lower class†of passenger? Are Celebrity cruisers really that snotty that I’m going to be looked down on while I enjoy my Heineken at the pool?

The cruise docs I just got for my 9/29 trip on the Infinity state you can only bring on 2 bottles of wine per stateroom, that more then that will be held until the end of the cruise. As far as I know bringing on a case of beer is not usually going to pass, though soda and water never seem to be a problem judging by other Celebrity cruises I have been on. Last year on our Baltic Constellation cruise I was in the duty free liquor store when a fellow passenger managed to sweet talk the sales clerk into letting him take his purchases back to his stateroom. I'm not sure if a tip exchanged hands or not.

Nothing wrong with loving beer. But it's NOT Carnival...which is to say, you don't show up in the public rooms in jeans and flip flops for formal nights. Or fall off the ship because you're so drunk.

Of course not ..we are all so well fixed on our Martini's we won't even notice :D

LOts of beers around the pool had by the upper crust......relax :)

No jeans in public areas? This is Hawaii!! I plan to wear shorts during the day, not even jeans. I think I've booked the wrong cruise?? This doesn't sound like fun at all!! Is it only suits walking around with their martini's? Not even a Mai Tai?

Angelfan, assuming you aren't teasing us, Connie's remark about no jeans was for the public rooms during formal nights.:) Of course you can wear shorts and jeans in the daytime and also in the public rooms at night when it's not a formal evening. They do request no jeans in the dining room on all nights (breakfast and lunch it's fine) including even casual nights, but if you really want to wear jeans you can do so at the Aqua Spa cafe which serves food until 8pm, or the Pasta, pizza bar, or the Alternate restaurant which is a roped off area at night in what is part of the buffet restaurant in the daytime.

You can always get the dining room menu for the day from your room steward, order what you want from it and request the dinner served in your stateroom or balcony if you have one. If your stateroom comes with a Butler they will serve it by course as they do in the dining room, if your stateroom doesn't have a butler, all courses will be delivered to your cabin at the same time.

As far as Mai Tai's you will see people drinking those and many other fun drinks throughout the cruise. Have a good time on your Hawaii cruise!

I should clarify....they suggest "all passengers observe the dress of the day in public rooms in keepng with the ambience"....referring to the main areas, such as lounges, casino and shows and restaurant. Like Diana said, they are many areas you can go in jeans, especially poolside or informal dining area. They simply ask you refrain from walking through the casino or lounges during formal or informal evenings in jeans. In all honesty, it's one of the things I like best about Celebrity. It's not stuffy, I ALWAYS party and have fun, but it adheres to the old traditions of cruising that I enjoy. Every line has its own "thing" and every line defines "formal" differently, depending on the passengers. I personally follow the guidelines and enjoy the formal and semi formal nights.

Some cruiselines (NCL I believe is one) are going to do away with formal nights together, which I find sad, but at least Celebrity isn't. Different strokes for different folks.

However, if you hate dressing up, like Diana said, there are other options.

Thanks everyone for the clarification. My post was slightly tongue-in-cheek, but I appreciate the information. This will be my first Celebrity cruise, so I’m trying to learn all I can.

:)o I understand that corkage on Celebrity cruises is $25.00 per bottle. Only x2 bottles allowed and any other alchol gets 'stowed'. But what might happen if they run out of Heineken whilst at sea? Can you get your own supplies at the next port.?:)-D (LOL)

Trust me, despite the giddy gluttony of most cruisers, nothing "runs out". Although your waistline may wish they did by the end of the cruise.
