We will be sailing on the Horizon's 19 Jan 2004 cruise and one of the port of calls
is quite unusual- Grand Turk of the Turks & Caicos. I have not been able to find a
whole lot of information on this port of call. What is there to do? We will be in port
from 7 A.M. until departure at 4 P.M. I understand that there are beautiful beaches
there, but where to go? Is it a better idea to go to a resort to use their beach
and rent use of their facilities- beach chairs, drinks, rest rooms, etc.? Any information
about what to see and do there, including shopping for souveniers (I like to
shop for arts & crafts, small gift items- certainly nothing fancy).
Thanks for any help-- there is so little info on the internet about the T&C! I did
note that we will be in the area during the whale migration- so that may be a
great experience- what is the potential for a sighting? I'll be happy just to see one!

Thanks for any info you can send my way!

I gave been to T&C MANY times but not to Grand Turk. I do know a little about it though.
There will be a good beach (the name slips my mind) and the water will be incredibly clear and lovely. The island is VERY quiet. (Don't be surprised to see goats wandering around). There is a nice little local museum (friends went and said it was quite well done). Whale watching is apparently very good near Grand Turk if you are there when the whales are migrating. There will not be a lot of shopping. The local people are friendly and polite but a little shy (Large scale tourism is very new here).

Hi. I am going on the same itinerary, but during Thanksgiving. I will post afterwards and let you know how it is. I wonder if anyone else is going on this cruise, as on another board, (I own't say which one, but it is critical) it seems as no one is going to be traveling with me. a ship to myself. aaaahhhh. But I have done a little digging and found that the beach is the thing in Grand Turk. It is not developed much. that is all I remember off hand. just relax and enjoy the beach and the undeveloped countryside.
