Sailing on Nov.28th. Cabin is inside on second lowest deck at the very back. Wondering if engine noise is a problem there. Been on ship before but not at back.

Go,
We were on the Celebrity Zenith recently on the Caribbean Deck (6th) and we were in the back. I'm told the Zenith is a duplicate of the Horizon. I'm not sure how it would be on your deck, but we didn't hear any noise from the engines. What we did hear (being under the kitchen) was pots and pans being pulled out. You can hear them chopping at 5 am. So you know elves don't exist, lol, people really are up early making all the food. The back of the ship is good because we were in a tropical storm going down the first night to Bermuda. I hear being up high and in the front is where most people get sick.

If you had any trouble with noise before on a ship it will be a concern. If not it will not bother you. There is for sure some noise and vibration and I'm not just referring to docking/thruster noise and vibration which happens on all ships to a varying degree during that maneuver. Your sensitivity to engine noise and the rhythum of same will be the deciding factor here. Doesn't bother most people but some others..well you know how it goes.

We just got off the Horizon. Had an inside, deck 5, toward the back, so I feel qualified to answer your question. Yes, you will both hear and feel noise from the engines. Not all the time, only when coming into port, for about an hour before docking. Must be prop shafts, thrusters, who knows? Also, once or twice in the middle of the night we were awakened by the same noise. I asked later on what it was and was told one engine was shut down at the time we had the vibration/noise. Outside of that, it was a great location. The Horizon was a great ship, but the chairs in the lounges couldn't have been more uncomfortable. Food was to die for. I gained 6 pounds.

We sailed on the "Zenith" (Twin of Horizon) in Oct. and had a deck 4 aft cabin, and let me tell you, the noise was HORRIBLE and unrelenting.

Remember that Zenith and Horizon are NOT diesel / electric driven vessels, but are older style MV (drive shaft to the propellers) ships, there for, they create alot of lower aft deck noise and vibrations ANYTIME the ship is moving.

So, read the brochure carefully and stay away from aft cabins... Just my word of advice.
