Any suggestions on a good hotel in rome or which area of rome to stay in? There are so many hotels, it is very hard to pick. Is staying near the airport a good idea or too far from everything? The website I was looking at divides rome into:

Central Rome
Vatican City
Rome North
Rome West
Leonardo da Vinci Airport (FCO)
Rome East

You're right, lots of choices. Some web sites list "Trevi - Historical Center" as a location. This would be a good area if you're wanting to see some of the famous sites. Trevi Fountain, Via Frattini (shopping), Spanish Steps, Via Condotti (shopping), Via del Corso, Pantheon, Barberini Square, Villa Borghese, Navona Square, The Coliseum are all right there.

Hope that helps :)

I am booked in a Central Rome Hotel near the train station. Rome is easy to get around using the public transportation system and I am planning on taking the Leonardo Express train Airport train website from the Airport to Roma Termini (8.5e) then from Roma Termini to Civitavecchia, the port entrance is just a short walk.

We have stayed in Rome twice, both times in about the same area which was very convenient to Spanish Steps, Piazza Navona, Trevi Fountain and not a bad walk to the Vatican. The hotels are, Hotel Forte and Hotel Del Corso--very reasonable with clean rooms and great breakfast included.

We stayed at a Hotel called "Hotel Coliseum" in old Rome very close to the Coliseum and Forum. Some friends recommended it and we also found it on expedia.ca as a recommended Hotel. It's considered 3 star. Very clean with all the basics.

Thanks
Chris
