Hotel recommendation for San Juan

We will be sailing out of San Juan in September. We would like to fly into San Juan a day early. I really would appreciate recommendations for a hotel for our overnight stay. I've only stayed overnight in San Juan one other time and the hotel was awful. This time, I'm collecting info before I book.

Thank you!

Depends...........do you want to be in Old San juan or nearer the beach??

We have only stayed in OSJ....stayed at the Sheraton OSJ and we are booked again there for next May......within walking distance of shops, restaurants,etc...........

I've stayed at Hotel Milano in Old San Juan before and enjoyed the stay. I think they have a two night minimum rule .

I highly recommend the Wyndham Old San Juan. You're right across the street from the port (one of them) and you're in the heart of the city and lots of things within walking distance.

We stayed at the Marriot--which TripAdvisor.com had rated, at the time, the #1 hotel in San Juan...

We thought the hotel was VERY nice...definitely up to standards...
BUT, the location was not optimal...We needed to use Taxis to get to just about everything...

Next time, we'll look for accomodations right in Old San Juan...perhaps the "El Convento" or the Sheraton...

Yes, the San Juan Marriott is very nice & up to date. I'm surprised the front desk personnel didn't recommend you hop on the bus, which stops a few feet from the hotel & only cost .75 to Old San Juan.
