Sorry...I didn`t finish. :(
We are booked on the Conquest and are taking our familys with us for Thanksgiving. We are paying for the rooms for two days prior so a five star hotel is out. We need 5 rooms. We have never been there so we are at a loss where to stay that is nice, close to things, and won`t take all our cruise money. Any help would be appreciated.

Thankyou

I think you should check out the 3 star hotels near the Shopping Mall Riverwalk. The Riverside Hilton is located in that area so find out the Hilton's address then look for a cheapy hotel near by. Someone said that you walk through the Mall to get to the ship.
Plus, you are close to everything and won't need to take a taxi to the cruise ship.
Do a search under Hotels.com or New Orleans, La. Hotels. I belong to Travelers Advantage that will cut the cost by 50%. Check-out all those websites.
Nov. is a very cold month in New Orleans so take lots of warm clothes. I also heard that the Conquest is kept very cold with air-conditioning. So, take sweaters to wear on the ship.

I am planning to go this coming Summer in July03, and have started my research on hotels. Some hotels state that children are free under 17yrs old. The Holiday INN Chateau Lemoyne, states that children under 19yrs stay for free.

I plan to keep checking to see which hotel is the best one for myself and my two teen
grandchildren.
You must get a map of New Orleans French Quarter. The hotel websites have them.
Good luck on your search.
I plann to take my grandchildren to cheap places to eat like maybe the Food court at the Shopping Mall. They don't care where they eat. They end up ordering expensive hambergers in restaurants anyway.lol. Lucy

We stayed at the Springhill Suites by Marriott. Nice newer hotel in the warehouse district. Cost us about $100 for the night for 5 of us in one room. It also includes a great continental breakfast.

Carol,
I am planning to stay in New Orleans one night prior to the departure of the Conquest in September. I checked out some discount websites and found some great hotels in the french quarter or in the business district near the french quarter for great prices! There was even a boutique hotel for half price or less. (can't remember the initial price exactly). From the information I gathered, some of these hotels are nicer than the DoubleTree and are cheaper by reserving online. Here are some of the sites:

www.hotels.com
www.hoteldiscounts.com
www.discount-hotels.com
hotelscheap.org

If you are not comfortable reserving with these sites, many of the hotels will match the price found on any website.

I hope this helps.

We stayed at Doubletree last September before sailing on the Holiday. Nice hotel, within walking distance of French Quarter and just across the street from casino. We stayed at Raddison the year before. It was nice but too far. We will be staying at Hilton - Riverside before Conquest departure in May. Keep looking. plenty of nice hotels with good deals.

Hi!

I was wondering if anyone had any other suggestions on hotels in New Orleans?

I tried most of the internet sites and they respond with either: not available, this hotel requires more than one night's stay, or..... they are are $200.00. I'm sorry but I don't want to spend almost $200 on a pre-cruise night. I want to spend it on the cruise!

Maybe another area besides the Central Garden District? What other areas are close to the port? We're driving to New Orleans on Sat. so transportation is not an issue.
Just looking for a nice, clean place to relax so we won't be late or rushing on Sunday.

Thanks!

I've stayed in two New Orleans hotels, one on Bourbon Street and one a few blocks away. Royal Sonesta is gorgeous, but expensive, right on Bourbon Street. The Maison DuPuy (has a website) is a few blocks off of Bourbon Street, but still within the French Quarter. Reasonable rates, pool, hot tub, no shuttle service to the port. Had them call a taxi service for us. Port is only a few minutes drive from French Quarter.

We just got off the Conquest last Sunday. We arrived one day earlier though, on Saturday, to take in a day and a half and one night in New Orleans. That's the main reason we booked on the Conquest! New Orleans is a blast and we are definitely going back next year for a long 4-day weekend. So much to do and see and so little time.

We stayed at the Riverfront Wyndham for $89 a night, which was a great rate considering it was during Mardi Gras. We were able to walk to the ship with our luggage on Sunday morning which took us about 10 minutes. One thing they dont' tell you is that Carnival will let you check your luggage and go through all the boarding procedures without boarding, thus giving you the rest of the day to explore New Orleans instead of getting on the ship if that's what you want to do. This gave us extra time to explore and shop in New Orleans.

Here's the web site for the New Orleans magazine that I picked up in the hotel. The magazine lists many hotels, restaurants, tours, shops, etc. so it may be helpful in planning your time in New Orleans. Plus, it had some great maps that I tore out and put in my pocket as we walked around town so that we wouldn't get lost.

web site: www.neworleansmagazine.com

Hope this all helps and have a great trip!

I was reading your response to Hotels in New Orleans ....How was the cruise on the Conquest, we are going in November and this will be our first time with Carnival ... We have been on RCCL twice, but liked the iteniary offered on this ship - If you get a chance write back and let me know about your experience on the ship and about any shore excursions you might recommend ... Thank you!

This was our first Carnival cruise also. We have cruised before with Barefoot, Norwegian and Royal Caribbean. We picked this cruise because of it departing New Orleans and the ports were ones that we had never been to before.

We had a great time on the cruise. The ship is gorgeous. The staff though friendly, I thought were not as friendly as the other cruise lines we had been on. For the first time we booked all our own excursions and did not go through the ship. On talking to others who went on the ship's excursions I felt we made the right decision, not only in cost, but overall experience.

In Montego Bay we decided to go to Rose Hall Beach which is a private beach about a 1/2 hour away from the port. We were lucky enough to get a cabbie by the name of Norman who drove us back and forth to the beach, to shopping and then back to the ship. He was very attentive, on time and gave some insight into life in Jamaica. The beach was very beautiful and secluded. The staff very attentive. The cost for the beach all day was $6 a person. The club offers jet skiing, parasailing, snorkeling, bar, restauranet, showers, etc. We went snorkeling for $25 a person. After the beach Norman picked us up and took us to a store where he knew the owner who took care of us, then we went across the street to Margaritaville for a drink and watch the entertainment. After that Norman picked us up again and drove us back to the ship. Cabs are not cheap in Jamaica so if you have a group of people to share it with will make it cheaper. We paid $90 + tip for having Norman all day long. You can check out the beach club via the internet. I found them through searching on Montego Bay's web site.

In Grand Cayman we booked our snorkel excursion through Captain Marvin's. In reading this board you will see many people referring to this company. We took the 2-1/2 hour snorkel tour which cost us $35 a person. They also offer all day and 1/2 day excursions. I suggest if you decide to book with Captain Marvin to book ahead on line. They only charge you when you arrive and check in, no charge for a no show. We had a tour guide by the name of Marshall. He did a great job. Snorkeling was much more pleasureable with 12 people instead of the 50+ that the ship excursions have. Their web site I believe is www.captainmarvins.com

In Cozumel we changed our minds a couple of times and last minute decided to go to the beach at Playa San Francisco and passed on the Chankannab park. It was a good decision. The park is very laid pack and you have access to walk miles on the beach. There is a fresh water swimming pool with water volleyball, showers, bar, restaurant, etc. at this beach. Total cost was I believe was $8 taxi ride there, $5 a chair and umbrella for all day. You can also snorkel from the beach though we didn't because we were just too lazy. If you don't bring your snorkel equipment it is available for rental, plus all other water sports are available. Plenty of taxis are available to take you from from the port to the beach and then to take you back to the ship or the town of San Miguel, which we did and had some refreshments at Senor Frog.

Any other questions just let me know!

Hello Luv2cruzwfrnds,
We are going on the cruise in May. Unfortuately it is the same weekend as the Jazz Fest. Therefore, we have to stay in a neighboring town 25 minutes away since we didn't want to spend over $150.00. We reserved our hotel through Expedi.com. Don't forget to check that site out, it was better than hotels.com for us. Good Luck!

Don't forget to try Priceline.com. I'm going to NOLA (no cruise, just land trip) for 3 nights over the Memorial Day weekend. We got the Omni Royal (4*, located in the heart of the French Quarter) for $65 a night. Even if it ends up that the hotel is "in need of repair"... at $65 who can complain.

If you're trying to find a hotel in New Orleans during a convention or special event, you can basically give up hope of finding one at a reasonable price. If on the other hand, there's not something special going on, you can find some pretty good deals. We (3 of us) were there last Dec. 14th for one night & stayed at The Historic French Market Inn at 501 Decatur. St. I found it on Expedia.com for $79.00 per night, paid in advance. It is in a very very old building, but has tons of New Orleans/French quarter charm. They have a court yard with hot tub and another with a swimming pool, which we didn't need in December. We had a 3rd floor room & had to climb a winding stairway to get there, no elevators. If you want to imagine that you're living back in the 18th century, it's a good place to stay. Rooms were very clean with wood flooring, rugs, high ceilings, & unusable fireplace, lined in glass. You might also try priceline.com and offer a price on a hotel that you think you would like. Just be careful if you use that, or you'll have a room charged to your credit card whether you want to stay there or not.
