Anyone have any recommendations for hotels in Tampa Bay....Dec. 8th? Any that include leaving your car while we're cruising? Transportation to/from Port of Tampa?

Any suggestions on how to get over & back to Marigot from Philipsburg, St. Maarten? Cost? Wondering what a cab would cost?

Are cabs available to drive around Tortolla instead of taking a tour? Cost?

Finally: any suggestions for San Juan?

Beth & John- I stayed at the Courtyard Marriott one night precruise and it was ok to leave your car for the week that you were on the cruise. No shuttle to the port but the taxi was about $15.00 for two.
Cab fare to Marigot from Philipsburgh was about $8.00 per person each way or public bus was about $2.00 per person each way. We took the taxi and driver was very friendly.
In San Juan we walked off the ship and took a city tour of Old San Juan with a local vendor. The cost was half of the ships city tour price. We walked back to the ship stopping at The Hard Rock Cafe for some much needed refreshments. Old San Juan was beautiful with its blue cobble stone streets, colorful buildings and friendly people.

The Marriot Waterside is sptting' distance from the cruise ship pier. The Wyndham Harbour Island is also close by. Both are well located for restaurants, etc. You would not need a car. You have to check on the parking situation

re San Juan, I agree with the above post. It's a lovely old city and easy to get around. You can visit El Morro, stroll through the narrow streets of old town and there are great little cafes and restaurants everywhere. No need to spend money on a tour.

We stayed at the Holiday inn downtown for $65 dollars in January. Cab from airport to hotel was $16. Hotel has free shuttle to cruise port, about 5 minutes. Excellent hotel and if you priority club (free) they give you free breakfast and a free drink. At least they did for us

We stayed at the Radisson near the airport and had a room overlooking the bay. The facilities and restaurant were fine, but the mattress was so was just terrible! We had a shuttle for the airport and it was a short taxi ride to the port - very convenient.

We had no trouble getting a taxi in Tortola - shared a mini van with two other couples and had the driver pick us up at Smugglers Cove at a designated time so we had a couple of hours to snorkel.

It's easy to walk around Old San Juan on your own. There are many beautiful little parks and interesting old buildings, plenty of places to stop for lunch or drinks. We like this area so much, but will probably want to explore more of the island on our next cruise.

The Embassey Suites Westshore will let you park you car for the week no charge. We have a room booked there for Dec.12th at $99.00 a night and it includes a big hot buffet breakfast and a managers reception on the day you arrive. The rooms are really nice with a seperate small kitchen, living room with balcony and bedroom with vanity area.It is about a $12.00 cab ride to the port. They have packages that include a shuttle to the port but the cab was cheaper we thought. We have stayed there before and are looking forward to staying again.Plus you get airline miles and hotel points when you stay there, you just ahve to sign up for their Hilton Honors program.

Beth: I am going on the same itinerary with Horizon but during Thanksgiving week. Yesterday I made a reservation at the Hilton. They said you can keep your car there for free for up to two weeks. There is a shuttle to the port, but you do have to tell the front desk you need this. The rate was $89 through AAA. Cheaper than parking ($10 daily) at the cruise port. Hope this helps. Hey, they have a conch farm at Grand Turk, not much else except a beach. Are you planning to do the Baths in Tortola? That sounds great. I hate the idea we are getting into san juan at 2 pm. It does not give us that much time until the old town closes I think (have never been their either). Am really looking forward to it. deb
