How can this man have NO common sense!

So last week I got a look at Leatherneck incision as he was complaining about pain and I was going to lightly massage his arm for the tendonitis (sp) from the surgery. I told him I thought the incision looked a little infected...he had the surgery back on about Dec 8th. I told him to call the Dr first thing the next morning. He did but he must have only complained about pain as they gave him a mild pain Rx. I asked him tonight how was it doing as he was B!%ching about the pain again. He pulls up his shirt and OMG! It is SO red and inflamed....what could he be thinking...I know he sees himself in the LARGE bathroom mirrors! I kicked him right out of the house and to a Urgent Care center 63 years old and you gotta treat him like a kid.....

Doesn't he realize how serious an infection can be? Obviously he didn't tell them his wife thinks it is infected. Hope urgent care takes care of him tonight & tells him to contact his regular dr tomorrow.

It wasn't til a few yrs ago when drs suspected cancer but hadn't diasgnosed it yet that I started going to all of Mike's dr appoint. I soon learned that he wasn't telling the drs info that they needed. Then the cancer diagnosis came & it didn't take too long for the oncologist to realize Mike wasn't giving him all the info. The dr would ask Mike questions & listen to him then the dr would turn to me and say, "now tell me what has really happened since the last visit."

I think you need to start going to his appoint. A few months ago Mike had an appoint that I couldn't go to so I wrote down a list of questions & things for him to tell the dr! With Mike it's almost like dealing with a child sometimes.

There's something about that chromosome that takes common sense away from a perfectly rational individual, and causes the "ostrich-sticking-head-in-the-sand syndrome". It also keeps them from stopping to ask for directions, so thank heavens for GPS units!

Well he is home. They took Xrays and blood work and he told me they said there was no infection BUT they gave him a shot of antibiotics in the butt AND an Rx for orals. The wound area was SO much more red and swollen tonight from a few days ago and 2 weeks ago it was healing nicely and had a good color....I still say something wasn't right.....he goes back to the ortho surgeon on the 31st.

My friend's husband suddenly died. Autopsy showed he had kidney failure. Her husband must have been in horrible pain, but he never said a word to anyone.

Denise, I don't know what to say about men......still trying to figure them out. If you don't see some improvement , please don't let him wait until the 31st to see the Ortho.....or at least call them and tell them what has happened.

Have you asked if he might have developed cellulitis?

Sounds like you really need to go to all of his appointments that you can! I had to start going to my dh's appointments because as a man he didn't tell the doctors everything that was going on either! I agree with Mary Ann, it sounds like cellulitus.

My dh had full kidney failure and he never said anything either until his lungs started filling up with fluid and he couldn't breath thought he was having a heart attack!

Men are in general more stubborn the older they are (at least that is my experience - and I guess some of you agree) and that combined with the way they were raised ("Don't cry, your a boy"... "You're a boy, you have to put up with some pain"... "Be brave"...) may have an impact on this. It's not that we don't feel pain but we have been told to put up with it as we are boys/men. I hope this is better with younger men as they probably have been raised differently.

It's another thing if we see a scratch or dent on our car...
