How does Princess distribute the tips to crew?

I wonder how Princess decides how to allocate the monies to the crew. Is the full $10.00 amount given out or is there some held back for certain reasons, --IRS wants to tax tips, etc. If the company pays out the monies to the employees in full, than a person has an option to tip more. However, if there is "shrinkage" in the monies due to allocations to others than Dining & Hotel help, I personally would tip some more to the people who waited on me. Carl

Carl--
I believe the full amount is split between the employees as you state. 99.9% of the staff is non US, non resident . It is my guestimation that they don't pay tax to the IRS. However, the staff 's wages and tips are paid to them in US $$$ from what they told me.

Your question is still valid...... We probably need a cruise staff member to respond!

I asked at t he purser's desk if the staff got to keep their tips? The answer was that the ten dollars is distributed to the dining room waiter and assistant waiter (how does that work on P.C.?) and the cabin steward, with a small amount going to Maitred, etc. He said that the automatic ten dollars is pooled. He said that even if people took the automatic ten dollars off of their bill, and tipped individually, the crew usually pooled that money, too. The only money they could keep, without pooling, was money given above and beyond the ten dollars a day. We tipped a small additional amount to our wonderful wait staff, and cabin stewardess......

With PC dining, the waiters and assistant waiters are paid out of the pool based on how many tables/seats they serve.

We just got back from a trip on the Grand. According to our final statement, $3.50 per day goes to your cabin steward and $6.50 per day to "dining room staff" (not defined, I presume waiters, bus boys and perhaps maitre d'). Our cabin steward was wonderful and we left her an additional $20. We didn't leave any extra for any dining room staff as we used personal choice dining and had different staff every night.

The dining room staff will be happy when the extra $20 you gave to the cabin steward in put in the pool.

I was told that the cruise line charges the employees an "administration fee" for their "work" in gathering the money and splitting it. Also, I was told that it sometimes takes as long as 3 weeks before the crew will see that money. Because of this, we usually tip directly to the crew person in cash.

I prefer to tip CASH on a PER service basis. What happens to that tip after I give to them, is thier choice!

We left the standard tip as is on our account, but left our chosen supplement for our cabin stewardess in cash. I am guessing that our cabin stewardess was able to pocket that cash, at least I hope so.
