How Early to Get In Line

Supposed to board my ship by 4:00. Have heard that "check-in" is a drag and the line takes forever. I do NOT want to waste any time. If I got there really early, would it help? If I was the one at the front of the line - checked in - could I go to my room right away and start exploring the ship. If our ship is set to cruise at 4:00 p.m., what time should I get there to avoid the long lines? HELP? First cruise!

The last cruise I went on I got there at 11:30am.I thought it was a little early because the ship didn't leave until 4:30pm,but they let us board. There was no line at all at that time, and just a few people on board. That way you have the whole day to check out the ship before you set sail. So if I were you. I'd be there early.

We arrived at the terminal at 11:30am and went through the line very quickly. We then had to wait about 1 hour in a large waiting room with ample amout of chairs before we boarded. Trust me when I tell you to get there as early as possible, get through the picture taking and security and just relax and people watch as you wait to board. Once aboard you basically have the run of the ship until everyone rolls in. I sat at the lobby bar drink in hand watching all the stressed out people just make it for the 4:00 pm sailing. It's not worth it!!!! Get there early and chill..........................

We got there at 10:30 (I guess we were a little too excited) and that was a little early. There is a vending cart outside with lots of drinks, sandwiches, etc. so that helped. By 11:30 we were in line and everything went very smoothly. We were on the boat by about 12:30 and had a drink in our hand and bathing suits on by 1:00.

Check in your cruise documents. Check in time is listed there. Get there earlier and you just may have to wait until appointed time

Get there as early as possible. We didn't arrive at the terminal until 230 and the place was bursting at the seams. At least I now know to fly in early or the night before!

I agree with all of the other posters. Get there as early as possible. It's better to be in the cruise terminal (sitting down) waiting for the boarding process to start then to wait in line behind hundreds and hundreds of other people! The earlier you arrive at the port, the earlier you'll get to that welcome buffet!

If you are going on the Legend out of Ft. Lauderdale, the boarding process took about an hour and a half. We got to the port around 10:45, and even though we were near the beginning of the line, the whole boarding procedure was not very well organized.

Yes, this is the message I have been hearing from many Legend cruisers leaving out of FLL. Sounds like they don't have their act together in this terminal. Maybe it will get better by April when we leave, maybe not! We at least will be prepared for the worst.
Thanks for sharing your experience.

We arrived at 11:30 for our recent Triumph cruise and it was worth it. The chances are it will take you an hour or so to get through the line no matter when you arrive, so you might as well arrive early and beat the crowd on the ship. You can definitely go to your cabin, and you can also eat lunch on board.

Don't forget that you're going on vacation to relax and have fun, so don't stress too much over waiting in line (you'll have to wait in line for meals and disembarking at ports) or over anything else in particular. Don't use the Internet, don't call home, and don't watch the news. Your cell phone won't work, so this is a step back to the past when people couldn't reach you 24 hours a day. Just relax and enjoy!

We were told boarding time was 2 pm for the Victory we were there by 11 am and boarding by 11:30 am. They will board once the ship has been emptied by the previous passengers. The previous passengers were off by around 10:45 am. They did a quick check of the ship and allowed us to board. This was the same case at the end of the first week of sailing when we were on back to backs. We had to leave the ship until they said all passengers were off than let us reboard.
