My husband & I have never cruised before. We are doing the Celebrity Zenith in October and wonder if I need a long dress. Can I get away with a very nice classic cut navy dress and dress shoes? Can he wear a nice jacket with shirt, pants and tie?

Sounds fine.People dress very fancy and some not so fancy.Men should at least wear a suit and tie and women can wear a dress long or short ,cocktail or evening gown, pantsuit and on and on it is such a hot topic.just dress nice and you will be fine.what you said you were thinking of should be just fine.

We just returned from the Zenith Aug. 2. I agree with the above post. On formal night I would say most of the men wore suit & tie & the women had gowns, dresses & pant suits. Try not to stress to much over dressing, I did on my first cruise but found that as long as you are not wearing tee shirts & jeans, you will "fit" right in. Enjoy your cruise!

The guidelines Celebrity provides are fairly accurate for what you will actually see on their ships. Some sailings have had pax that were generally a bit more formal or a bit more relaxed... but I've always followed the guidelines and never felt out of place. It's really not that difficult.

We intend pretty much to do as Paul. Daughter, grand daughters and I will wear long dresses for first formal night and short cocktail types the second. DD has a tux and the semi formals we will wear sun dress or very nice pant suits with guys in jackets. I do think the guys are going to fore go the ties on the 2 semi formats. Following the dress code just makes sense to us and makes us feel more comfortable. We don't have to worry about not being dressed properly. Our grand daughters are loving the idea of dressing formally. The oldest is a college Jr and is used to this the other a high school senior.
