We were to tender to Cozumel immediately before Christmas and the seas were so rough the captain skipped the port. Interestingly, the tenders did come out to the ship and one even tied up. We stood on the outside promenade and watched the top deck of the tender come up even with us and then plunge back down. We waited for a couple hours and then headed out to sea. The captain reported that the winds were upwards of 50 mph. When we did stop in Belize, where it was very calm, we met people from a Carnival ship that were on that ships first tender to shore. They enjoyed their day at the beach and when they arrived back to tender to the ship were told they were the one and only tender to go ashore. Apparently, the rest of the passengers had to wait in the harbor until the last people from the one tender came back. My assistant and her husband just returned from Cozumel and said the seas there were very rough. They did tender, but the ride was roller coaster like.
Hard to tell what the sea will be like on any given day. But, as is often said here: a bad day on a cruise beats a good day at work. Looking forward to the next cruise.
