With all of the rain that Alaska may have (been looking at the radar!) What are ya'll's best suggestions on keeping stuff dry - when are excursions, etc. We thought about some kind of backpack or something?? We will have to carry something for items such as jackets, sweaters, camera, etc. And what about your shoes?? I am bringing an extra pair in case the first pair gets wet - but then what?? I don't think they make gollashes (sp) any more!! I don't want any type of rain to ruin our fun and be miserable!! Any ideas appreciated.

Also still wondering exactly what to pack - i have read all the stuff - but i hate to bring a "big" jacket if i don't need it - but the weather there is very unpredictable and sporadic!!

thanks

Hi - My hubby and I are taking our first cruise in August and I have many of the same questions. We are both taking rain-proof jackets with hoods (light weight) that are roomy enough to layer with a fleece or sweatshirt underneath. We are going on some excursions, I just plan on taking a roomy canvas tote that is either already waterproofed or spray it with Scotch Guard or something. I do know that whatever we take along, it needs to light weight because I don't want to burdened with packing along anything heavy on those excursions, nor packing along stuff we don't need! As for shoes....don't know about that yet. If you have any ideas, I'd like to hear them! Maybe a good pair of waterproofed hiking boots?

For raingear, I just went to Target and picked up rain ponchos for $1 each. Toss them after use, use the next one the next day.

We plan on bringing the Frogg Toggs and a couple of $1 toss-away poncos. My wife has a wp backpack (Wal-Mart, bright orange, can't miss her in a crowd!) that she'll tote around. Keep some zip loc bags handy for the cameras.etc.
