Hello

Me and my hubby are booked on our second cruise, this time on the Caribbean Princess on 30 Sept 07. Here in the UK we are receiving news reports about Hurricane Dean (an extract of an AOL report is shown below):

The first hurricane of the Atlantic season storm, which had already killed eight people on its destructive march across the Caribbean, triggered evacuation calls from the Cayman Islands to Texas, and forced the US space shuttle to cut short its mission. Cruise ships changed course to avoid Dean, but some tourists in Jamaica could not get away before the island closed its airports on Saturday night.

Our cruise itenary seems very similar to Hurricane Dean's...Marvellous :) Anyway, thanks to a useful link found on this site I was able to look at a 'live' web cam on the Caribbean Princess. I have to say that the sea looked quite calm - considering the ship is currently in the Cayman Islands!

Should we be worried :S Has anyone been on a ship during a storm, and if so, what is it like - scary or nothing to worry about? I suspect the latter but I don't want any nasty surpises so I thought I might as well check with any seasoned cruisers that may use this forum.

This seems like quite a handy site but Im surprised there's nothing being said about the hurricane.

Many thanks

We cruised during Hurricane Isabel a couple of years back. We were scheduled to go to the Eastern Caribbean but they changed the itinerary to the Western Caribbean. We would never have known there was a storm if it weren't for the ports of call we visited. :grin

We were on the Century and headed towards where "Gamma" was supposed to go back in '05. The good thing is the storm actually fizzled out, but the captain told us that they constantly monitor the tropics and plan ahead to stay far out of the way. Worst case scenario is if the storm is headed towards your port of entry/departure. Then they may have to stay out for another day or two. That would present a problem for air travel issues. Not sure how helpful they are when that happens. Anyone know?
