I book a "TBD" room=huh

I booked a to be determined room on Carnival. Basically they are going to choose my balcony room. They said there is a chance of an upgrade. This has me worried as I just called back and there are no rooms available that I can choose from and now I have to wait for my assignment from Carnvial. Has anyone had an experience with this booking?

Thanks.

Most of my 20 cruises were in guarantee [what you call "to be determined"] staterooms.I have never had any major problems. If you need a specific cabin/location for any reason, a "guarantee" isn't a good idea. If you chose a "balcony guarantee" you will get, at minimum, a balcony cabin somewhere on the ship.

You may/may not know the exact cabin prior to embarkation.

I booked a TBA room also on the Celebration. I received a upgrade to the 5th floor. I will continue to do this in the future!

=yeah You usually get a lower price by booking a GTY with the trade off that the cruise line assigns the cabin. Our last cruise we booked an inside guarantee because it was last minute and that's all they had left. We were actually upgraded to an obstructed ocean view with a very minimal obstruction.

Got my cabin assignment today for Feb 27th cruise. I booked a 6A and was upgraded to a 8F on the Veranda Deck. The cabin is fairly close to the elevator.

All in all I'm very happy with my choice of a guarantee and I can't wait to sit on my balcony :)

I booked a tba cabin, I tried following what had been said on here to find out the cabin # but alas, no deal. I registered, completed our funpass, everything. I can't purchase anything because I don't have my cabin number.
Any suggestions appreciated!
Thanks!

Have you actually called Carnival customer service or actually called the bon voyage service rather than just working on line? There has to be a way to handle this from their end. Your other post says you are 40 days out, they should have you settled in by now.

Thanks Bob, I just called Carnival and was told they couldn't do anything about the cabin # as I booked the guarentee and it was not assigned yet.
The customer service lady really surprised me as she didn't seem to care about my questions. I'm hoping this was an unusual occurence.
She told me to contact my TA yet the TA told me to call Carnival.
Hmmm.

A "TBA" cabin might not be assigned until embarkation day. I've had that happen more than once. You check with the porters that have the ships manifest to get your room number for your luggage tags and you go to will call to check in. Now you could probably do that online the night before.
It is unusual for a cabin to be assigned that late in the game, but it does happen.

We look to book aft balconies, but we rarely book a year out so they are often not available. When that's the case we book an 8A or better TBA. Never had a problem. Never got an 8A either, always an 8 with a higher letter. But that's not an upgrade in my book. Just the same cabin in a different location.

Your TA is YOUR TA, even though they are being paid by a percentage of the booking that booking is being paid for by YOU, they work for YOU. I would call them back and politely remind them of this and ask that your problem be solved. A good TA is your go between with the cruiseline, any cruiseline. You want to send a bon voyage gift to yourself, it should be that simple.

Well, this is an old thread but a good topic.

There is one down side to booking a guarantee.

First of all, once Carnival assigns a cabin it is their policy that will absolutely not change the assignment. On our last cruise our cabin was directly above the lounge in the casino. The bass giutar from the raggae band rattled the picture frame in our room. It was really loud. Fortunately the ship was not full and I was able to persuade them to move us after a couple of days but I will think twice before booking a guarantee again.

I also have a guarantee balcony for my Feb 27 Glory cruise. I also ordered liquer from Bon Voyage... they ALL go by your booking number NOT cabin number for any special deliveries etc. I wouldn't worry about the actual cabin since you paid for a specific category and will most likely get upgraded. But even if not, you still get what you paid for.

They said there is a chance of an upgrade. Who was they ? We did the G 5 times and got the cat we paid for every time. What cat you book is what you will get somewhere. Today its upsell calls to go up a cat. We now pick our rooms. Our G were all over the place from all the way up front to the rear. We are back to booking the room, you don't save enough to take the chance of a room you will not like. Most times we did't know the room number till we got to the port. Then its good luck. To us going up a deck is not a upgrade, I want to go up a cat thats a upgrade. Never happened.
