We are going on the Carnival Destiny cruise, and I want to know what to expect and where to go.

We will be visiting st thomas, dominica, barbados, and aruba.

Perhaps I'm confusing myself with a resort, but all I want is some nice places to go where I can relax at a beatiful beach with a bar and perhaps some places to eat outside at a table under an umbrella.

I want to sit in the water and sip a drink and relax. The stuff you see on all the commercials and movies.

I want to see bars with coconuts on them, see/hear people playing caribbean music, get a drink with an umbrella in it, etc. Ya know, paradise. ;)

What places would you recommend?

I can only address St. Thomas for you. I would recommend Megan's Bay in St Thomas which is an easy cab ride from the pier; it is beautiful with bar facilities right on the beach. If you want a little adventure added, take the ferry to St. John and then take a cab to Trunk Bay. It is even more gorgeous; and no entrance fee. All of the facilities are available and there is great snorkeling there. Have fun!

There is s $4 entrance fee for Trunk Bay and I do not believe it is what you are looking for because while it is an amazingly beautiful beach it is a national park so there are not going to be waiters on the beach bringing you drinks. Saphire beach is the closest to your description because it is part of a resort. I hope this helps!

The Boatyard in Barbados is great!!! Terrific beach with water toys. At night the Boatyard becomes a nightclub!! Great people watching too --- the Jolly Roger cruise embarks and debarks from the pier right beside The Boatyard.

In Aruba there is a place to go by cab...called Moomba Beach next to Holiday Inn and Marriot..It's got a beach chairs, bars and awesome umbrella drinks..Enjoy..we did, our time share is on Aruba..oh and the music is great too..Carlo's and Charlie's is right at the pier...no beach,no chairs,...plenty of booze and music though..we've never been but lot's of people do go there..I vote for Moomba beach..also the Jolly Roger Pirate ship departs from there too...:grin..you'll like it!!!.. In Aruba it's all good!!!..;).Joanne

I'll comment about Dominica since nobody has. First, don't bother with the ship's excursion for this island. You can find something cheaper outside the ship exit to town. Lots of people will be coming up to you, inviting you on their excursions. Most of them have picture books showing you where they'll be bringing you. From memory now, there're a few places to visit, but I recommend Emerald Pool. It's about 40 mins drive up to the mountain and at the entrance ($2), you walk an easy path through a very nice rainforest. Very easy walk. At the end of the trail, only about 20 mins if you walk slow and enjoy the pace, you'll come to Emerald Pool, with waterfalls. When we were there, the pool was about 3-5' deep, cool and relaxing.
There's Middleham Falls for the more adventurous, and I believe is a more spectacular rainforest trail to the falls, but it's a 8 mile uphill, pretty intense.
Tralfalgar Falls is OK, but the walk is muddy and dirty when it rains (bring a raincoat, it rains alot in these interior rainforests)
After our emerald pool visit, the driver, drove us past the botanical garden, not much here, and then up to the Morne which is on top of a hill overlooking the harbour with ships, etc.
All in all, it was about a 4.5 hours trip and we paid $15pp. (there are also $40 ones, but don't go for the first person who ask you.. quite tempting, since ships excursions are about 60) Good luck.
