This is my first post, but have read cruise addicts for over a year. Amazed at all the great information from experienced travelers.
I am planning my first Alaska cruise, and my future cruises depend on a good experience with this one. My husband and I did a Mexico cruise last year on RCCL. He disliked the whole experience. He called it "Motel 6 and Denny's on the water" Too much of a drinking partying cruise. We are outdoor people that love hiking, rafting and kayaking. So.... I am hoping this turns out to be a better cruise experience. This is what I am planning:
The Cruise/Land tour through Princess to either Denali/Kenai or Denal/Copper River. I am looking at the Coral Princess one way from Vancouver ending in Fairbanks. Here are my questions
1. Has anyone taken this cruise and how did it turn out?
2. Anyone recently been on the Coral Princess? I am trying to decide between a balcony or a mini-suite. The suite is only 200.00 more. Any room suggestions.
3. Has anyone made reservations through discount travel sites or is it better to make all plans through Princess
4. Excursion suggestions?

I think you'll have more fun on this, but I think most cruisers are more into the tour type of thing, than hiking, biking, etc. At least that's been my experience. But that doesn't mean you can't have it "your way." What does your husband want to do? Hike? Search for hiking trails near the cruise ship docks in your ports. Bikes? Same thing. Or just rent a car and drive into the wilderness and find interesting places to do Alaskan activities like fish, hike, etc. At least that's how I approach it. I'm renting a bike in Ketchikan, taking the Blue Bus to Mendenhall Glacier to hike, and renting a car in Skagway to drive to the Yukon. None of those are the cruise ship tours. Not that they're bad, just not for me. So I'd check with you DH, do some internet research (as you're doing) and then give him some options.

Good luck! See you on an Alaskan trail maybe!

I was recently on the Coral and had a balcony on the Baja deck. It wasn't very big but was big enough. I haven't been in a mini-suite so I can't say much about that. Guess it depends in the difference in price. The Coral is a great ship and never seemed very crowded.

Have Fun!
