Hello all this is very important to me.. This will be my first cruise, I am 25 and like to drink and stay up late. My girlfriend is 20 an cannot drink in the U.S.. Is there a drinking age on the ships??? I have narrowed my ship search to 2 (that I can afford) There is the Century by Celebrity for 7 days or the new ship by Holland America the Oosterdam for 7 days... The price difference is only 100$.... I am open to all suggestions from people who have done this before!!!! Thanks for all the help.

I would check out Carnival is I were you which is a "fun" ship. You might find Celebrity too sedate if you like to drink and stay up late, the same with HAL. As far as the drinking age of you girlfriend I believe she may be able to get beer or wine.

I agree with Mary El that you may be better off with a Carnival cruise. Royal Caribbean would also be another cruiseline to look into.

Actually, your best bet would be RCCL. Carnival's drinking age is 21 for all alchoholic beverages and they seem to enforce it pretty stringently. RCCL and Celebrity will let you drink beer and wine at 18 (and they turn a blind eye if you happen to buy her a foo foo drink on your card). It's pretty much on a par with Carnival as far as "Fun" ships.

Your best bet is Royal Caribbean as she can drink beer and wine . Their drinking age for that is 18 years old. To drink harder stuff it is still 21.

While I’m certainly not a cruise expert, I may be able to help you with this one. From what you’ve said, I was in a similar situation little over a year ago. Might I recommend RCL, Rhapsody of the Seas is a good starter cruise, as it offers all of the fun of a cruise without some of the stuffiness of other lines. RCL is a good value for the money and is often rated higher than Carnival. While people in our age group (early to mid 20’s) are in the minority on most cruises, it does not mean that you won’t have fun. There will likely be a handful of people your age. When you price “cheap†cruises be aware that the price they try to sell you on is often inflated by the time you add on tax, and port charges, not to mention airfare. Ask around on this board for a good discount TA, our members won’t let you down. As far your girlfriend is concerned, I seriously doubt that she will have any problems getting alcohol either on the boat or any non-US port provided she doesn’t look 14. Also, the Rhapsody, which travels the western Carb will take you to ports where you can buy some of the cheapest booze around. RCL also offers a drink card, which is cheaper than buying drinks separately. If you have any question I’ll try to help.

The Century would be the better choice, but neither are the best for you. I love Celebrity but this might not be the best. Better choice would be Carnival or Royal Caribbean.

Drinking on the ship is 18 for beer and wine and 21 for mixed drinks. Not sure how close they monitor that or not.

Cruising is great and you will have a great time no matter what.

JMHO.

I love Celebrity as well, but probably not the right choice for your age. We were on RCL Rhapsody of the Seas in 1998, and there were a lot of younger people.
