Hello. I'm new to this forum. I won a Carnival Ecstasy cruise to Western Caribbean with stops in Cozumel and Progreso, coming up in March 2007. My husband and I are first timers and we've been trying to navigate the reviews concerning shore excursions and on-board routines. Any tips would be appreciated.

OK, this is what I got from the community board.. from "Einstein": "For Cozumel I would certainly recommend some time at Chakanaab and then perhaps a stop at Pancho's Backyard for a Margarita and some food.

As fo Progresso I thought that was a type of Soup?? Never been there so I can NOT be of any help. Enjoy!!!

My recommendation for Cozemel is a little different. I have been to Xcaret twice and loved it both times. My review is posted in a couple of places, but if she wants to see a ton of pictures check out my website [bomack.nrgservers.net] and please feel free to send me an email to jetakai_s@hotmail.com if she has any questions.

Also at [www.crowncast.org] the beach bears have a ton of stuff for RCI reviews (including mine) and my podcast.

Like any other cruise, I think it will depend on what they are in shape for and what they want to do.

Hi,
My daughter and I went to Cozumel/Progresso last spring. It was very nice, the food was superb, the ship was great.

Our experience gambling was the first 3 days they shovled winnings our way, the last 2 they took 'em back. I don't know if this was the luck-of-the-draw or some sort of "system" they have.

We snorkled/kyaked in Cozumel and did a Ruins trip in Progresso. THere aint much in Progresso-proper to do, Cozumel is much more developed. In hindsight I'd have skipped the kayak part & just snorkeled; THAT was nice. I found the ruins trip a bit dry. Maybe just lounge on the beach for us next time in Progresso.

Have a ball!

Congrats! Thats really cool! I went to cozumel and progresso last year and it is a blast! I went to Paradise beach in Cozumel, and that was fun but very crowded. I also went to some unique shops within progresso that were non-touristy. I recommend that IF you speak the language. And then we went to the myan ruins in progresso. That was fun but it took us a little while to get there. make sure you have enough time to get back to the ship! I highly recommend doing excursions. We found it much harder to go out on our own!!! Have fun!!!

We really enjoyed the Mayan ruins near Progreso. Dzibilchaltun is the name. The tour was wonderful and very informative.
