ID requirements for boarding

Could someone tell me what NCL is requiring for boarding. Are they requiring both a passport and a driver's license with photo id? Since I live in one of those few states that don't require photo ids on driver's licenses, I don't want to have a problem at the pier.

If you have a passport that is all you will need. The passport already has your photo in it. You need some other form of photo ID if you are using a certified birth certificate. If you are boarding the ship from a tour and for some reason your sign and sail card does not work right and they do not come up with your picture you need a photo ID to get back on the ship. This has happened to us and seeing our passport was in the safe in our room I did use my license but you can use other forms of photo ID if you have them. Such as a security badge or I have used my Scuba certification card.

If on a tour you may want to take your passport with you if it is your only form of ID or at least make a copy and take it with you.

As stated above, only your passport is needed and make certain you book the cabin in the exact name as it appears on your passport. I have a legal name which I did not even use when we purchased our last home, it is not on my Drivers license and I never use it, but it is on my birth certificate and passport. My sign and sail card had my nick name and I went through He-- every time I tried to re-board the ship. Next time I will be smarter I hope.

I am cruising in December, and will be married by then, so legally my name will be different that it is now. Will I run into problems since the reservation has my Maiden name and I will traveling under my married name? Also, should I get my passport in my Maiden name or my married name (I'm getting married about 10 weeks before we're cruising, so I might have enough time to get the passport with my married name and then use expedited service to get it quickly). Any advice would help. I know they're muct tighter on this type of security since 9-11. Thanks!

I really hate taking my Passport out of the cabin when I go to shore. I keep it locked in the safe. I'm afraid of losing it or getting it wet etc. If you have access to a scanner just scan your Passport and then laminate the copy with laminating sheets that you can get at Staples for a few bucks. You can then fold it and it's practically indestructable.

star 7228.......... IMHO.. I would get my Passport now, and after your are married they will do a name change for free. This will be much quicker, just send in your marriage certificate & passport with express return postage.

Remember whatever EXACT NAME you make the reservations in with the cruise line, your Identification MUST MATCH THAT NAME !!

So pick out either Maiden name or Married name, and make sure all names match.{Middle names may be initials}

Star7228 as long as your ID and your documents match you should be ok whether you use your maiden or married name. If you are getting married 10 weeks before cruising you will have plenty of time to get a passport if you file for it right after your wedding. If your documents are in your married name and your id is in your maiden name you can always use your marriage license along with a certified copy of your birthcertificate to show why the names are different plus a photo ID.

Well you must be from NJ, My wife had the panic attack also. We both had Passports issued in 1987 that expired. I had an expired "Picture License" along with a current up to date non pictured. I also had documents from the defense Dept, veterans affairs and a birth certificate.

I do alot of last minute traveling, so I also decided to just get a new passport and avoid the hassle. If you have a Passport that's all you need. I would suggest you apply for one anyway as NJ is going from the worst Licence to the most hi-tech one in the next 3 years and a passport is worth 5 points. You will need 5 points to get a NJ license. A Birth Certificate is worth 2. Social security card is Zero.

Save yourself future aggrevation.
