asking for a friend who only has a drivers license...doesn't she need an original embossed birth certificate or passport.. The travel agent told her a drivers license would do...I think she's wrong.

NO - one form of ID is not enough! The rest depends on your itinerary as to which countries you intend to visit. A passport covers all bases, but a birth certificate (with seal) will suffice for most circumstances.

If she doesn't take her birth certificate, depending on what ports of call they are going to, whe won't be permitted to leave the ship. Pass port is the best bet but for now a birth certificate is fine. I just got my pass port this past year. I'm so glad I did since we cruise at least once a year. It's a lot easier to carry that than the birth certificate.

She will definitely need a bith ceritifcate with a raised seal, at least. She won't even be allowed on the ship without it. The smart thing nowadays anyway is to get a passport. Get a passport.

If you dont have a passport and are only cruising in the Caribbean take a bunch of things,, a voting card, a pictured drivers license and a birth certificate with a seal. Or, if you have a government workers ID take that since you cant be a US government employee without being a US Citizen.

It takes 4 to 6 weeks for a US passport and cost around $55 for 10 yrs.

It would make sense to get a passport if you contemplate traveling.
