In Cozamel, Paradise Beach or Playa Mia?

Are these two beaches about the same or does one have the edge over the other? Is one less patronized than the other, overcrowding can really kill the experience. Do you just hop a cab from the pier to either?

Both have their strong points. Paradise Beach is the 'new' rage, so looks like more people are going there now. Personally, I prefer Chankanaab Park. It's a national park with fantastic snorkeling - not so at either of the others, because Chankanaab has natural coral reefs. Much more to see and do at Chank. That's where the Dolphin swim/encounter is, and they have a lovely botanical garden with cove and also replicated Mayan ruins. Have you thought about Chank? Whichever you choose, it will be about a 8-12 minute cab ride. The cabs there hold up to four people, and it's $10 per cab, not per person. I've been to all three when on Cozumel.

Have to keep the 12 and 17 year old daughters in mind when choosing. The two I mentioned have some water toys which of course would never influence me(sure) but I must consider the kids. Interesting you mentioned Paradise as the more crowded. The sites of each have pictures suggesting the opposite. Thanks

Chankanaab Park- I heard it went missing with the past hurricane. We went here for our first cruise. For adults it was verynice place. After an hour my kids tend to get bored.

I would think Paradise beach is more crowded compared to Playa Mia. It comes highly recommended on other cruiseboards so people tend to go there. Its also 8.00 for water toys Playa Mia is 12.

Playa mia also has an inclusive openbar for a fee - so dependingon your drinkinghabits Play Mia may be the way to go.

Playa Mia is where the cruise ships go for their beach breaks.

There is a smaller beach club right beside, basically attached to Paradise beach club, that is really nice, called Palm Beach Beach Club we really enjoyed it, great deal for $40 and then you are guarenteed a chair, all you can drink and food too. Paradise looked packed and I don't think they had enough chairs to go around . Our favorite place is Nachi Cocom Beach Club and I'm hoping it will re-open in December, they were damaged by the last two hurricanes.

Do you know if you have to make a reservation for Paradise Beach? We were planning on going there but not sure about the reservations. Thanks! Only 19 more days till our first cruise.

If you are looking for a way to get around the island, I highly recommend hiring a van from Island tours. Take van #01. Pablo is the driver and he is wonderful. He made our experience at cozumel fabulous. If we ever go back we will be looking him up.

I was just there the week before the hurricane. Man it was fun. We went to Paradise beach. I will say I was a little disappointed in it. The water wasnt very clear to snorkel. Lots of muck and seaweeed. It was so bad they had people out there clearing it. It wasnt crowded at all. Its about a 10 minute cab ride and it was $12 american for a car. $24.00 for a van. If you have 4 or more you will have to take a cab. We did and we had to pay $24.00. They dont bother to tell you that until you get there. The sign says $12, but it was $24 for the van. I personally would try the other.

That is correct, just grab a taxi to PB. Agree on the price before you get in the vehicle and be sure to have lots of small bills so you can make exact change. It is possible that the driver won't be able to change a $20, so that would end up being your fare.
If you check out their website http://www.paradise-beach-cozumel.net/ it has alot of info... It was by far the nicest day we spent.
There is no fee for beach entry, but there is a fee if you want to use the water toys - trampoline, iceberg, etc. You can also rent snorkel gear, though the snorkeling is not great there.
Food is great - the nachos were outstanding. I can personally recommend the marguerita's, I tried several to make sure they were good.
We used a Visa card to pay, so I know they take that. Our total bill, which included 3 Margueritas, 4 Coronas, buffalo wings and loaded nachos was about $40 US.
Have fun, and make sure you say to PB Tom for me! He and his staff do a great job there, I'm sure you'll have a great day.
Here is some pictures of Paradise Beach, post Wilma. Also includes PB Toms new sons picture.
