Infinity or Mercury

I have booked Mercury for Aug 16 trip to Alaska. However yesterday I found its itinerary is different from other dates of its sailing to Alaska. This is Mercury does not go through inside passage but outside of Vancouver in both directions for this trip! I am quite upset and thinking of changing to Infinity because Infinity goes through inside passage on its way up and I do not have to take the transfer from Seattle to Vancouver. But Infinity only makes two stops in Alaska, no Sitka as Mercury does. Can anyone help me decide whether I should make the switch or stick to Mercury?

In addition, does anyone know why Mercury makes this "no inside passage" itinerary? It does not make sense to me. All its stops and cruising time are same as its itinerary that goes through the inside passage on other dates.

Thank you for your help.

We were on the Infinity from Seattle last year and it did not travel the inside passage at all. I am talking about the real "Inside Passage" not that short piece north of Prince Rupert going into Ketchikan. In fact of course the Mercury does that also on your booked cruise.
However it did Sitka last year and this year it does not. That is where they gain the time to do the Inside on the new itinerary.

So your options are change to the Infinity a M class ship, bigger and newer (my favorite ship actually) or change your time on the Mercury to when it does do the Passage. I can tell you for sure the passage is worth the trip. I can also tell you that Sitka is a very interesting spot and Victoria is a cool place to visit also if you have never been there although the time will be limited

Help any ?? :)
Welcome to Cruise @ddicts.

Thank you for your quick reply and information. However I am not clear what you suggest me to do. It sounds like you think either switching to Infinity or sticking to Mercury should be fine. Is it correct? Thank you again.

Yes you are exactly correct. :) I like to leave all those hard decisions up to the people that are going on the holiday. Your priorities are not mine. Inside vs Sitka vs. Bigger newer ship vs Smaller. and older... AND we didn't even discuss the great cities of Vancouver vs Seattle. You don't say where you are from.?? Travel cost to Seattle may be less ?
Does Victoria make up anything for you?

I don't think you can go wrong really. All options seem fine to me.
