Hi: I am suprised not to see any mention of problems on the Infinity re propulsion pods, I hear form another board that they are having problems that might affect our cruise. Anyone hear about this??? Lorelle

There are problems. Speed is down due to the propulsion system. This is the same one that they had replaced 2 years ago. One port was bypassed.
There is an article in Crews News Daily about it. From what I hear, a decision will be made by this weekend on what to do. The odds seem to be that the 3/14 cruise will continue to FLL and that the possibility is the Millie will take over the canal crossing. I don't know what will happen to those on the Eastern Carib Millie cruise.

Yes, I have heard from someone working on the Millie this is exactly what will happen. Millie will finish doing the Infinity run before heading to Europe. Don't have a clue what will happen with the Millie's Caribbean sailings.

there was a post on the community board a while back but is lost in time now. This board will keep putting the topic on top if things are newly posted. I have been following the ship on other boards and as robertlew says on cruise news daily. The description of what is happening is frightfully similar to our last trip about a yr ago when we had the cruise cancelled most of the way to San Diego from Ft. La. That was the last time that the ship had the pods fixed.
I don't think that there would be much of a chance that the millie would have her cruises cancelled but you never know it might be cheaper for them to do that.

Read the press release of 7 AUG 2003 on their web site. At that time Jack Wiliams President and COO says. "“In the meantime, guests should know that any cruise we have to cancel, as a result of any issue with these pods, we will back with a full refund and a free cruise.â€Â

I would suggest you start the process of being ready to bail. If they cancel your cruise before you sail and you are not flexibled with your holiday time you might want to be ready with a choice of another Celebrity ship that you can go on and use some of your air if you booked your own air.. You should be Ok if you have booked air with Celebrity. If you are ready with a plan you can beat all those others in making something out of nothing if it is cancelled. I can tell you from experience. One Summit sailing cancelled prior to sailing and the Infinity cruise when aboard that it ain't no fun. Everyone will be cranky and wanting to get in line first.
Thats about all the hints I can think of for right now. The air can be the main problem.
good luck

On another board a writer states that the travel agent called and was told by a Celebrity agent that the "bearings have been replaced" and there will be no cancellations. My question is how they were able to 'fix" it if indead they did. I am a bit skeptical myself.

I think Infinity seems to be on schedule and will porbably continue. Many times the malfunction is not because of the bearings, but because of a malfunction of the bearing sensors. Sometimes it is in a convertor. The news article is jumping on the bearings as the etiology.
By the way: One should read a "Path Between the Seas" by David McCallum before doing the Canal. It makes it much more interesting.
