Hello!

New to this board, and we are looking into sailing on the Spirit 3/2006. We have sailed Carnival, RCCL and Princess and we are looking for a smaller older ship, relaxed atmosphere. We love cruising but the last couple of years we have been on big/mega ships and we definately like a more quiet atmosphere with less chaos at ports. We do have kids and I am wondering what NCL has for a child program (age then will be 9 and 14) and what is there any sort of formal night on NCL? The entire family has always been 'big' on formal night. Many thanks, Nan

NCL Spirit is a wonderful ship, around 77,000 tons displacement. NCL considers her as one of their new modern Freestyle cruising ships, although she is 5 years of age or so.... The Spirit was built for Star Cruises out of Singapore and Hong Kong, and thus has a wonderful Asian decor with just a hint of the British Empire appearance....

The Spirit has a wonderful child program.... There is on the Spirit a large area for the children along with a kiddie swimming pool..... Plus there is a large video game area.....not to mention a disco area.....

While I prefer not to dress up for formal nights, one of the two main resturants will have at least one formal night and posssibly two, depending on the length of the cruise usually on a night without a port visit..... In fact, so many dressed up for the formal night on my cruise, they overflowed into the other main restaurant.....

I'm sure you'll love the Spirit......

Thanks again for so much info....read your reply for the main board as well! I had no idea that NCL even had a formal night (looking at 7 day cruise).

Does NCL offer a pizzeria type place or a hamburger stand? Do they offer any juices or is it ice tea and water for refreshments? What about specialty coffee in the dining room? Do you know how many pools are on the Spirit? I really appreciate all of your help! Thanks again so much!

Have not been on the Spirit but have the Star, yes they have a pizza place, and icecream place, you can get hamburgers every day in buffet line,I prefer dining room, and yes you can get juices, hot chocolate and milk for free,we bought soda cards as well. We loved free style dining, eat wherever you want, when you want, and yes formal nights are great,on NCL I noticed more tuxes on formal night than regular suits, people seem to want to dress up more. Enjoy your cruise. Korina
