Do the cruise ships use this route? or as I suspect just motor on out side !!

Yes and no. If you look closely at "my map" you will see that they go "Inside" just north of Vancouver Island. Your "Inside" is way up there.

Anyone else have thoughts?

BSea - I may be wrong, but it's my understanding that it has to do with the tides at Seymour Narrows with most of the ships being 'larger' these days. Heading north, if they can make the tide at Seymour, they can stay "inside". If they can't, they go out to sea. It's not a problem heading south as there is enough time to adjust speed to hit the tide at the Narrows at the proper time.

bOB and I are quite familiar with Seymour Narrows and the charts of that area. Just ask him!
