Internet/Cell Phone service during cruise

I will be taking a cruise on the Explorer of the Seas from Cape Liberty Cruise Port to Port Canaveral, then to Nassau and Cococay. I looked into the internet pricing, and it is steep. Has anyone who has taken this cruise been able to get internet via 3G cell service while at sea? I fully expect to get service while in Port Canaveral, but what about on the way down? How close does the ship hug the coast?

Also, I have a Verizon-based Iphone 4S. Does anyone know if this works in Nassau?

Thanks

Have not tried it on the East coast but did a West coast coastal a couple of times. Going to guess results will be about the same.
Problem is, the ship will go out far enough to clear International waters so they can open the Casino, this puts you at least
12 nautical miles from shore. So other than entering or leaving ports you will have a rough time getting a signal. I think that ship
has a cell tower on it but would probably be more expensive than just going for the internet.

Unless you already have it, check with Verizon about International roaming. Most likely they have a partner that will cover Bahamas
