Internet Rotterdam / Long Distant Phone Calls

Hi,
We are booked on the Rotterdam for New York to Montreal.

I heard that surfing the internet on board is expensive per minute, however, I think I have read that the internet cafe has a "package" for unlimited surfing.

Has anyone heard of this and if so how much $$.
Is it available from the suites or just from the cyber cafe?

Also, what are the charges to use their phones for phone calls?

Thanks
mark

Rotterdam has an internet cafe which is a great convenience. We have not been on Rotterdam for a little while, but on all the other ships we have been on, they offered several internet package. You can buy 100 minutes for $55...our last several cruises, they gave us ten free minutes in addition as thanks for buying the package. Or you can buy 200 minutes (I could be confused and it MIGHT be 250 minutes) for $100. I have not seen any "unlimited" packages.

Only Zuiderdam has internet access from cabins. None of ships except for her have in-cabin connections.

Telephone calls from the ship are VERY costly. Something like $10 per minute. Do your "calling" in ports unless it is an emergency.

Do you know if my Cell phone will work on the ship, doing the New York to Montreal trip?

Is this hight cost of telephone calls, also for calls coming into the ship, or just the calls leaving the ship?

:)

Both....if you place the call, your shipboard account is charged for the cost.

If you receive a call, it is just as costly for the person calling you...but it will be on their telephone bill.

As to cell phones....depends on your server and conditions etc
Sometimes you can use them in some ports; sometimes not. Can't count on it.

Having a Penthouse means that you have to save somewhere? Pennies make dollars, besides do we really want to talk to anyone back home while we are crusing??? Let them pay if they want to talk to US!!!

Mark,

We only used the phone in the suite once to make a call, and they were currently running a special that evening for only $6.95 a minute. Now I had won the slot tournament that day as well, so I was feeling very pleased and called home to tell my DD about the luck. We used the internet cafe to stay in touch, and we chose the 250 minutes for $100. I found that I could enter the Hotmail site, read mail, send mail, and log off in about 18 minutes or less. My husband would check his e mail account, and his was not using AOL or Hotmail, and it tended to run a little longer to connect, but then it depends on where you are in the voyage and such. Being so close to land, you should have good access. There were also several internet places in port that were cheaper, and our Concierge was a good source of information. It costs just as much to receive a call on the ship as to place one, but I understand that a person can call the ship and have a message delivered that is a bit cheaper.
