This was not my experience at all. I sailed Celebrity twice in 2001, and believe me, I never got a dinner like what they served at Sizzler...LOL.

I actually got halibut one night that melt on your tongue....believe it or not it tasted like lobster (and the best I'd eaten in a long time at that).

I think that cruising is what you make it. If you want to nitpik and have a lousy time...you will. If you just roll with it, you'll have a great time. And remember, if you order something you don't like....You can always order something else.

The person who wrote that review has posted negative reviews before (check out his review of the Zaandam.

I wouldn't be too concerned about that specific review.

We sailed the Mercury last summer and loved her. It's the only Celebrity cruise we've taken so I can't comment on whether they're going downhill or not however we did find the service to be better than on HAL and NCL and RCCL.

I've been cruising Celebrity since 1993 and have cruised to Bermuda many times and the eastern and western Carrib. The ships that i've been on were Horizon, Zenith,Meridian,Century and the last 2 cruises,Millie. This jan i'm cruising on an 11 night on the Summit with 11 relatives and friends.I wouldn't keep cruising with Celebrity if the cruise experience was GOING DOWN HILL. You can't beat the sevice and the food especially the food prepared and served in the specialty restaurants. If you look at one negative review and conlude that Celebrity is going down hill then you need to read the positive reviews that state the opposite.

Just read the review. That person sounds like an annoying snoot. Anyone who uses the word "pedestrian" in a cruise review is not to be trusted. ;)

HI FRANK!!

This is the same old song and it is not a new tune either. I can remember people slamming ships 30 years ago and then we would take a cruise on the same ship and be delighted with everything. IT HAPPENS and sometimes IT happens to you!!! There are always people who get the "short end" and many times their complaints are legitimate.

We just got off the SUMMIT on 10/20. We had the Concierge Cabins (2) and thought they were fantastic and that the service and amenities had, indeed, been improved. I also knew several others who were in CC and they too felt that it was a wonderful experience. I knew 1 couple with a CC and they were "very disappointed" with their service and the dining arrangements, etc. etc. GO FIGURE!!!

Seems like there are always 1%?? 2%?? that just don't end up with the right deal...
"LIFE IS A CRAPSHOOT" but most of the time it all works out.

Celebrity is fantastic and will continue to please (most) everybody.

I think the review was a fairly reasonable assessment of someone who has cruised on Celebrity and has some perspective of luxury and premium lines and a history of Celebrity. You can get bad Celebrity cruises. I was on the Constellation last December, almost a year ago, and had abysmal dining service, mediocre food, and just an overall mediocre and substandard effort by Celebrity in just about all areas. On the plus side the ship was constantly being cleaned, the Captain was warm and friendly, some of the service in bars and Cova was attentive and very courteous. But there was definitely a downgrade in the presentation and preparation of food onboard this ship compared to previous Celebrity cruises, and a general dumbing down feeling of the cruise.

I think in general cruising is turning into an almost bargain vacation. Celebrity is not excluded from this. Celebrity's prices are way too low for a line that is supposed to be premium. Premium should cost more than mainstream lines, not the same, and in some cases, less than mainstream. Sometimes Celebrity is less than Carnival.

I think Celebrity is a fine value now but I don't think they are the superb product they once were. I think they are a compromised product showing cutbacks, but I think the same holds true for HAL and Princess, the other "premium" lines. I think the fairly recent "enhancements" by both Celebrity and HAL shows that the management realizes that the lines aren't distinguishing themselves the way they once did.

Although we prefer Celebrity, I read into the person's review that he is somewhat like us. We book primarily for cabin accomodations, food and ship atmosphere. We prefer rather a rather elegant atmosphere and a large cabin, since we spend much time there.

If people would spend time researching cruiselines and cabins... as in older days TA's did... I think there would be less dissatisfied passengers.

We were on the Millennium two weeks ago and have nothing but good things to say about the ship and the cruise. That was our third time on celebrity and we are booked again on the Summit this February 2.

We love the dining experience on board the ships and especially the speciality restaurants on the Mille class ships. We eat in the speciality restaurant two to three times during a cruise and will say that two weeks ago things had only gotten better on Celebrity . We also always book a cabin with a veranda or a suite and have found nothing but great cabins.

Can't wait for our next Celebrity cruise.

We were on the Millennium in August in the Med (and we've cruised five other lines as well)...

All I can say is if THAT was "down hill", then I must be insane...it was an absolutely fabulous cruise...
We actually booked the Summit for ourselves while onboard...When we got home, we booked it for our kids as well...And then, for my Dad';s 80th, we bought Mom and Dad a present--We booked them on the Constellation for the Baltic in June...

So, you can read into that exactly what THIS poster thinks about Celebrity RIGHT NOW...

I'm going on the Summit this January with 12 relatives and friends after cruising 14 times with Celebrity. We've cruised Bermuda a number of times and the Eastern,Western and Southern Carrib.on the Horizon,Zenith ,Meridian ,Century, and Millie. Iwouldn't be coming back to Celebrity if it was "Going Down Hill".

We recently returned from our 16th Celebrity cruise and have already booked number 17. Has the line gone downhill over the years? I don't think so. Although there have been some changes over the years, for the most part Celebrity still remains tops among its competitors.
I think it boils down to this - if you board a ship (or go through life!) expecting perfection, you're going to be disappointed. Some passengers are just inflexible and have unrealistic expections. They're easy to pick out on these boards.

Here's my problem with Celebrity. It wasn't unrealistic expectations whatsoever. It wasn't perfection at all. I expected a similar level of quality that I received in 1999 in 2001. It's 2 years later. I didn't get it. The Constellation's level of overall service, level of cuisine, was below the standards Celebrity itself had established. However, so was the price. My wife called this cruise Celebrity-lite, as it seemed watered down compared to previous Celebrity cruises.

So, I think Celebrity, as a premium line, should be more expensive than it is, to keep quality standards up. I think the reason why there are no new ships coming out from Celebrity is that they don't want to water down the product any more to try to fill up the ships, get the current fleet up to a higher standard, and sorry to say for some of you who expect bargains from this line, get the fares back up to where they should be.

We just returned from our first Celebrity cruise; loved almost everything about the ship and the line. I will say I had read so much positive about the line that I expected something that wasn't there: what I do not know. We would sail them again in a heartbeat. Some people just seem to look for the negative in everything.

Also as far as Conde Nast travelers go , they think Celebrity is among the Best in it's class. The two above them were Crystal and Radisson. There is always someone that won't like something, but by no means does that mean an entire cruise line is slipping. We think it is a wonderful cruise line and look forward to all our future sailings with them.

Benjamin Smith -

We sailed Constellation on its first transatlantic cruise from Barcelona back to the US last fall and found the ship, service, food, staff and crew to be excellent. Sorry your experience was less than stellar. After 16 Celebrity cruises, we've never encountered anything even close to "Celebrity-lite."
