Is it just me, or has the media just GONE TO FAR

I am sure we all know about the events that have occurred on the ms. Brilliance of the Seas, but the reporters have just gone to far. They first were just giving the facts, but now it has turned into a bashing contest for the media against Royal Caribbean. I am sick of it.

It blew my top off today when a man from CNN said, " that the world should be boycotting Royal Caribbean International due to the fact that they had convered up a rime to save their already low reputation. "

I flipped Out!! I called CNN and complained.......and then just had a larger fit when they mentioned that all cruise lines should be boycotted. This one man was blabbling on about how 42 people in the past decade...that right DECADE, have had trouble on a cruise. Well, that 42 over the past 10 years for every 1500-3500 thousand people every day on a cruise. That is such a minimal number that it makes me think cruising is safe.

So then on another show they took callers who were on RCCL, but had decided to back out.

This has turned into a bloody thing for Royal Caribbean. All of a sudden FOX NEws of touring the Brilliance, Oprah has the President and the Ms. Smith (don't get me started on her), and CNN and MSNBC saying to boycott RCCL and all the cruiselines. This has gone to far in my opinion. As well, the RCCL stock has tanked to almost a 52 week low....b/c of the media.

For all cruise lines, they are getting a bad name. For everyone that has cruises before, especially on RCCL, we know that the ships are beautiful, the cabins are wonderful, service is excellent, and the actual vacation beats driving or flying any day.

Personally, I think it is not only a shame for RCCL, but for Carnival, Princess, Holland America, Radisson, Costa, Norweign, and all the other cruise lines, because of the media.

You are completely right. The media is out for all the ratings they can get out of this. And it makes me sick. I will continue to cruise when and where I wish, and my choice is Royal Caribbean. I have never felt that I was not safe. I feel at lot worse in the parking lot of the local grocery store after dark. You want murder, muggings, rape - just walk downtown in most American Cities after dark.

Long live ROYAL CARIBBEAN CRUISE LINES.

Right on Smithers--right on--right on. I have been arguing the same thing . It's appalling what the media tries to do to the cruise industry. If you take the 80-90 MILLION people who have cruised over the past 10 or so years and then take the few of approx 48-50 who have had a problem, the percentage is so low that I can't even figure the correct percentage number.

You are right again regarding crime in any town or city in the U.S. On any given DAY there are more crimes in any town here in the US than there are in a year on all the cruise ships combined.

It seems that the media is determined to break the back of the cruise lines for whatever reason yet, these bubble heads who tell us the " news " have never even been on a cruise.

The attorneys love to see this negative press regarding the cruise lines and would give their left arm in most cases to see a cruise line end up in court and lose a big case, thus opening the door for a deluge
of suits against the lines--- thereby lining the pockets of the attorneys with millions.

I think it's high time the cruise lines started to fight back rather than sit back.

Ok-- just fell off my soap box so now I'm going into Celebrities shore excursions to pick out mine for my next cruise. Hopefully on my next cruise I won't be assaulted in my cabin by my cabin steward, beaten up and thrown out of the dining room by my waiter, have hot coffe dumped on me by the busboy, forced to drink too much by the bartenders, used as a mop by the deck hands nor raped by the blonde girl at the pursers desk.

Despite bold declarations of being bipartisan, objective, and willing to portray "just the facts", anybody whose honest with themselves knows that the media loves a good juicy story. And if it's not juicy enough, they've been known to add a little of their own as long as I can remember.

If the media is truly trying to inform me that there is crime on a cruise ship, then they are telling me something I was already well aware of. Any grown adult should realize this. It is not the cruise line's fault that people are people, and it is a logical conclusion that out of a group of thousands of people, that someone will not have your best interests at heart.

On the other hand, if the media is simply trying to trump up a few sad events and blow them out of proportion (which is EXACTLY what I believe has happened here), then they have also failed, because I couldn't be more excited about my next cruise--which will most likely be with Royal Caribbean, as they have given me no reason to go anywhere else.

At some point the television networks and tabloid press will find another horse to beat and will forget all about this. If it wasn't so disgusting, it would be almost amusing to see how when one network exploits an issue, the others then scurry to get in line and out-sensationalize the others. Eventually they will find some other issue that will get them bigger ratings and they will drop this one. If RCI could only sue them for libel and slander, there might be more responsible coverage.
