is it that bad?

I've been reading the awful reviews of the Zuiderdam and are going within a few weeks, seems like we don't have much to look forward to...can't tell if it's that bad or if it's just that the reviewers have high expectations? I'm concerned because my husband didn't really want to go in the first place and I'm gonna hear about it if it's as they say...any insight, we're going with our 14 yr. old and we are 49??? Will we be totally out of place?

I have posted many comments on several BB's re: our back-to-backs on Zuiderdam in April.

I am not clever enough to know how to carry a post from one Board to another, but if you are interested, you could go to cruisecritic.com (the HAL section) and read the comments I posted there. It is too lengthy for me to retype here.

In short, we loved the ship (although we did not expect to); we found her to be a very beautiful ship and had two truly fabulous weeks aboard.

Hope you have as good a time as we did. Happy Cruising.

Sorry...after posting this, I tried the link and apparently this site does not allow links to that site. The thread is entitled "My 2 Cents worth after 2 weeks on Zuiderdam (very lengthy) and is dated April 29, 2003.

Relax, we went in April and had a wonderful time. I sailed with my Sister, Brother-in-Law and their kids (12 and 9). Good food and a great crew. Im not sure what to make of the recent reviews but it seems to me that for WHATEVER reason the ship will not make some people happy.

Thanks, you made me feel better. We're not savvy travelers so we won't know any better, maybe that will help...I just don't want to be on a ship with a bunch of complainers, tends to ruin the overall morale, if you know what I mean. I'm so glad that I found this website, has a lot of useful info.

All you have to do is go to the old post, highlight the part you want, right click, copy, and then paste it in the post you are doing by right clicking and paste.

Thanks Barry.....but, um, err, gee.......I still haven't progressed to opening more than one window at a time. I know, I know.....I should have learned that by now but I'm thrilled I've progressed as much as I have seeing as I don't have a clever ten year old around to teach this thick head!!! :)

Thank you so much as to thinking of me as a 10 year old. My youngest one is going to be 30 this year, so I would say I was a bit older then that.

What was this thread again, oh ya, I belive that the people who are having a good time on this ship are the same ones who look at the glass as half full, and the ones having a bad time are looking at the glass as half empty.
I think I read this someplace, but I am so old I can not remember where. ha ha ha

Barry....:) I am quite sure that my reference to clever ten year olds wasn't all that confusing that you actually thought I was referring to you as a "TEN" :grin

We have all heard about how the young kids are amazing on computers and many a middle ager happily turns to that age group for computer assistance :)

Not to worry! Just returned from the Z and she was awesome! This was my fourth cruise on HAL, 14th overall; and this has to have been the very best. I even looked for things to complain about; could not find them. The ship is gorgeous and lives up to the standards set for all HAL ships, and then some. To address your question, "Is it that bad?", not bad, just wonderful! Look for my review and hopefully a gallery of pics later this week.

Thanks so much...after 14 cruises you should know what you're talking about, and I'll look for your pics.
