Yes there was another thread a while ago but it is good to keep the topic alive.

Royal Caribbean has not made an announcement about a replacement for Monarch of the Seas but I have to think that they will not abandon the West Coast "short" cruise market.

Western Cruise Line used to operate Azure Seas out of San Pedro back in the day (my first cruise). Western Cruise Line was bought by Royal Caribbean and Azure Seas was eventually replaced by Viking Serenade (I cruised on Viking Serenade in September of 2001). Viking Serenade was replaced by Monarch of the Seas in February 2002. I am watching for an announcement from Royal Caribbean about a replacement for Monarch of the Seas and I'll post it when I see it. Meanwhile, the good news is that Mariner of the Seas is coming to the left coast. Nice to have a Voyager class ship over here :thumb

I've seen absolutely nothing indicating RCCL will replace the Monarch...

Carnival has added a third year round ship in SoCal (of course, I won't cruise with them any more)...

But Celebrity (owned by RCCL) has pulled out entirely...
And RCCL is bringing us the Mariner...but seems to have abandonned the short cruises altogether--much to our dismay...We loved the option of the short quick getaway that we could always squeeze into our calendar...

At this time Royal Caribbean has no plans to replace the Monarch in Los Angeles. If you are looking for a quick three or four night cruise to Baja California after October 2008, your only choice is Carnival.

It will be interesting to see what the future brings. While Royal Caribbean is building three more ships (Independence of the Seas will start taking passengers in 2008 and the two Genesis ships are scheduled to start sailing in 2009 and 2010) Royal Caribbean has also announced that the entire Sovereign class (Sovereign, Majesty and Monarch) will soon leave the fleet (I think over the next two or three years). The Empress is older than the Monarch or the Majesty, so its days at RC are likely limited. That just leaves the six Vision class ships to do the short cruises. Will one of the Vision class ships come to Los Angeles to do the short three and four night Baja California cruises? Time will tell. However, I would not count on it happening before 2010.

thanks for all the reply everyone! its been real helpful. i cruised with carnival for the short weekend cruise last november and the carnival ship was just not the same as the monarch. i dont think i will ever cruise with carnival again but considering that the monarch will be leaving... i dont know what to do anymore.

and for bruin steve, good luck on your cruise with the vision. i did that same cruise last january of 07 and that was my first one. i personally think that the vision is a real boring ship.... lolz. thats y im so bummed that the monarch is leaving coz i usually cruise with the onarch 3 times a year just to get out of the hussle and bussle ofthe city..... it would be great to have a new ship to continue monarchs itenirary. :(

Empress and Sovereign are gonners this year.

However I think Majesty and Monarch will linger for a couple few years because they need the 3,4 night Port Canaveral and Miami market.

As of now they have no available ships to immediately replace the ships, so unless they change future itineraries, the Baja Mexico cheapo-easy-way-to-diamond cruises will probably be on hiatus.
