Is Princess for us?

I'm new to these boards and have been lurking for awhile. You all seem so friendly and full of information I decided to post. I'm looking at booking on the Star Princess for November 28th. We have never sailed Princess, but have sailed NCL, Disney and Carnival with our 10 year old son. My husband and I are going alone this time to celebrate our 15th Wedding Anniversary and are wondering if this is the right ship(line) for us. We're both in our early 40's and enjoy the casino, good food and relaxing by the pool. We liked NCL's freestyle dining option and are wondering if Personal Choice dining on Princess is similar. Thanks

Beth

Funny for the timing of my first cruise with Princess for my 15th wedding Anniversary in 1994... cruise great...changed life..divorce..new life..but still adore Princess ..It was a perfect fit..they seem to be what you mentioned wanting...we found to like the traditional seating best but tons of others love Personal choice dining...find the itinerary and ship you like then compare costs..we tend to do San Juan sailings...less kids..more islands and newer ships..It's all in what you want..not ready to risk another cruise line for fear of being disappointed...got back to back 7 day in 2005 Golden Princess booked...Good luck.. The ages are average 35-65..they limit how many kids..have dancing, casino and fresh water pools...lot's of other lines do sea water in pools...Have fun and =welcome aboard...:cheers...Happy Anniversary early...:daisy...Joanne

Hi:
I have #31 cruise booked this summer for Alaska on Princess and I don't think you'll be disappointed with a Princess Cruise. We've also tried Carvnial, Disney, NCL and RCCL, (which is my favorite). We started cruising in our 40's and now we're in our 50's and still enjoy Princess and RCCL the most. I think it's a great choice and with a new ship it's even better. I've tried the older ships and I just don't like anything about them. I love the newer, bigger ships myself. Hope you have a great time.
Happy Cruising......Anita

We are Princess fans too! Our last cruise was on the Grand Princess (sister ship to the Star Princess) and it was just wonderful. We really enjoyed Personal Choice Dining and would definitely do it again. Any wait we had was not more than a few minuted (we've waited longer to get into chain restaurants). These ships have great pool areas too! Have fun planning your cruise!!

Thank you all for your replys. I do believe we will be giving Princess a try in November. I have gotten some great prices and am really looking forward to this cruise. I'm sure I'll be posting lots more questions in the interm.

Thanks again

I guess i'm so addicted to cruising that i feel any day you're on any cruise is better than being at work ! We love Princess Cruise Line and have been so satisfied overall that we never tried any of the others. Like they say, "If it aint broke, don't fix it" We stayed with Princess and i love my Platinum membership status in the Captain's Circle Club. Especially free internet access and the special lounging area on the morning of disembarkation.

We too cruised for our anniverisary. We first tried Carnival for our honeymoon, then again when our kids were too young(LOL) Then for our tenth ann. we decided to try Princess and not take the kids. Ahhhh, perfect! We will be cruising on the Golden Princess for our 15 th ann, this April, and let me tell you we are so looking forward to it!!
Try Princess, you will love it, and no its not all "old folks" ( someone keeps saying that but we never saw it)

=welcomesign Glad to see you posting! :wave :wave

I would say it's for you. Princess has a quiet, intimate atmosphere. It's very different from other cruise lines in that no one really cares whether your bathing suit looks good on you, whether it's the latest style, or how your hair looks. Everyone is so 'into' their own moment that these superficial things don't seem to be important.

From what I've heard, Personal Choice works well on the Grand Class ships but not on the Coral Class (is that the right name?). We did PC on the Grand and loved it, but we were with a group and it made talking at dinner a bit easier.

BTW - our sons loved the Grand Princess so much we had to do it again! They have a video game arcade to die for!

We're like kruznut and haven't changed from Princess yet., about 11 or 12 cruises later. The remarkable thing is that everyone's cruise experience is different because of personal like and dislikes. I remember in 2002 when three reviews appeared about the same cruise we had been on and you'd think each couple had been on a vastly different cruise.

Welcome aboard and enjoy looking forward to your cruise.

I think you will love the cruise and the ship, Princess for the money I think gives the best all around cruise experience. Alaska by Princess is wonderful, especially if youy take the land tours by train and to the lodges. Alaska is a must for cruisers.

Welcome aboard and have a great time.
