Is Sky Suite on Celebrity Mercury worth it?

I am a solo traveler thinking about traveling on the Mercury Oct. 8 for a 4 day Pacific Northwest cruise out of Seattle. I have never cruised on Celebrity before, but have taken over 30 cruises in my 56 years (mostly on NCL).

My primary reason for selecting this cruise is the cold weather destination, as I live in Texas and get enough heat and sunshine at home.

I'd really appreciate anyone's thoughts on the "niceness" of having a Sky Suite over a Concierge Class cabin with a balcony.

I will not be eating in the dining room, as I am sailing for a little piece and quiet (I have a very people-intense job and look forward to not having to socialize when I'm on vacation). Thus, I'll be either having room-service or go to the buffet for dinners (buffet for sure for lunches).

I love cold weather so expect to spend a good deal of time with the balcony door open whenever I'm in the cabin.

I'm a big slot machine user, so when I'm not in exploring the two ports, I'll either be in the cabin or the casino (when it's open).

In other words, I'll be spending more than the average amount of time "chilling" in my cabin. Would anyone who has experience with the Sky Suites on the Sky Deck of the Mercury care to tell me whether it's as nice as the Celebrity website claims?

Thanks SO much! Judy

Judy,

There just is no way to answer the "is it worth it" question. I have sailed in both CC and Sky Suites on Celebrity ships many times. If a good deal is available, I go for the suite. Otherwise, I book CC. You can't go wrong either way. The main differences are: 1) the sky suite is about 25% larger, the bathroom is about 50% larger, and the balcony is about double the size; 2) the suite gives you free use of Mercury's T-pool which can only be used on a pay-as-you-go basis from a CC cabin; 3) the suite comes with a butler who is available to provide extra services and spoiling -- maybe particularly useful if you want full meal / beverage services in your room rather than waiting on room service. Both categories come with a bottle of welcome aboard champagne, evening canapes, and fresh flowers in your room.

Enjoy your cruise, which ever way you go.

On Mercury, the Sky Suite is definitely worth it! From the description of what you are looking for, on Mercury certainly will fill the bill. I would suggest that you book SS on Deck 12 (the Sky Deck). These staterooms have large balconies in addition to being large rooms. Not all SS on Deck 12 have same size balconies. Some are larger than others. We had SS 1221. This is one of the staterooms with a balcony approximately 170 sq ft. Look at the Deck plan which shows relative size of balconies accurately.

With the Sky Suite, you will have a butler. We didn't use butler services very much, but it sounds as if you will. I believe that your butler will serve you dinner course-by-course in your Sky Suite. There are other benefits to SS, too. Yes, SS is what you want.

Concierge class staterooms on Mercury are only 172 sq ft with small balcony. On Mercury, go for the Sky Suite on Deck 12.

I can't thank you enough for your input! You are a great group of cruisers and I wish you all days of clear skies and smooth sailing. Hopefully, we'll meet someday, somewhere on the ocean where life is easier. JudY

The Sky suites on Mercury are not worth it. The suite is not much bigger than the CC cabin. The X on the smokestack is above the Air Conditioning system. for the whole ship and the sky suites are under this. There is constant white noise.

The balconies are huge, near 200 square feet but not private. The cabin is so small on these Century class ships that the butler has to wiggle his way into the room with a heavily laden food tray. The concierge class special menu is better than the menu for the sky suites.

When room service delivers a concierge class breakfast they set down the tray and leave quickly.

In a butler served sky suite the butler wants to uncover the dishes and unfold the napkins and pour the coffee and juice in butler like flourishes, which is not very cruisey when one of the cabin occupants is still under the covers.

Butler service should be unobtrusive. The Sky suite cabins on a century class ship are not big enough for butler service, especially in the morning.

I've done a Pac NW cruise at the same time of year that you're planning your cruise. We also expected cold, possibly rainy weather and packed accordingly. We got hot weather, clear skies, not a drop of rain and cool evenings. Even the pools were being heavily used. So, pack layers just in case you run into warmer weather.
