Several people have recommended the Jolly Roger "booze cruise" in Barbados. I'm looking to have a lot of fun, a drink (or two), but not get drunk. And I'm looking for good snorkeling.

How good is the snorkeling on the Jolly Roger trip? Thanks.

There usually isn't any. It is drinking and swimming (always a good idea). And people will be jumping in the water d splashing, no self respecting fish will stick around. Sharks might, but not fish. Seriously, I was diving in Barbados a few years ago and could hear the splashing around from over 300 yards away and 40 feet down.

If you want good snorkleing, look for an excursion that takes you over to Carlisle Bay. Some nice shallow water wrecks to snorkel and dive on.

The Jolly Roger does anchor close to an old tramp steamer wreck, which is about 10-15ft below.....it's not great snorkeling, but there will be a lot of fish there.... Also, the cruise has snorkel gear for you to use no charge....

The snorkeling on the Jolly Roger is absolutely terrible!!!

Do not do it!

However, if you jump off the Jolly Roger and snorkel in the water, then it's pretty darn good!

Everyone should do the Jolly Roger at least once. But go for the rum, the singing, the plank walking, the general silliness, and let your hair down good time. If any snorkeling happens it must be by accident--maybe some of those plank walkers actually got their eyes open enough to see a fish!

Most snorkel tours are required to keep the booze locked up until AFTER the snorkeling is over (although there are some I've heard of on the Yucatan Peninsula that don't follow this rule) --a good idea I think. The combination of sun and rum can boil the most hardened brain cells.
