The Train cars are convertibles. But do'nt worry it only goes about 30 miles an hour. You want the true alaskan Experience right. Just kidding, yes the train cars are "Climate controlled". You will be comfortable. There is food and hot cocoa available during your trip.

Maybe you can put on a sweater and head out to my driveway with the snow blower, and enjoy some of this wonderful nature up close and personal. This is not a comfortalbe time to live here. (for me at least)

i get to do that myself. i live in the midwest and it snows here too ( grin ) and we have ice storms as well. at least when you go out to shovel the drive you can see a gorgeous mt. we get to see the remains of the corn fields. hang in there, like us, your winter will be over in a few months.

How cold are you expecting it to be in May? Our late May trip last year found us in shorts one day at sea, but normally with light jackets which were still a bit more than needed.

I am probably not a good judge of what most people think "Cold" is. to me, 40 degrees F. is sweater weather.

that is a heat wave for me when we are in our winter months. i will be just fine im sure ( grin ). i thought i had read in an earlier post that the train was not heated at all and the caboos door was always open. if we are in another car besides that one im sure we will be ok. thanks for all the help.

You are cracking me up. (LOL) It is not like riding the train in India, or the old west. You have absolutly no access to the caboose. If there even is a caboose. If you are in a cruise line car, it is luxurious as far as trains go, if you are in a AK RR car, it is very comfortable. You cannot open a window, except in an Emergency. You can however access fresh air in between some of the cars. Have you been to the AK RR website?

well, im glad to give you a good laugh and im laughing at myself too. no, actually, they keep talking about standing outside on the last car taking pix. so i had a certain picture of it in my head. i was way off huh??? and i have never seen the thing, so i only can imagine what it looks like. but an old fashioned western train would be an added affect for the old gold mining days dont you think? ok, now i get the idea of what it is like. i wil check out the web site and get a look at the train. and i wont think about it being cold anymore and just know that it will be a great tour and i will have a great time. thanks for making this a humous and fun post. im sure others are glad to read about the train too. and stay warm this winter.
