is there a way to see a ships overall current cabin booking for a cruise?

Unfortunately, no. Cruise lines will show a limited number of cabins available in each category at any given time and you never have a way of knowing how many unassigned guarantees there are.

On the Princess web site if you are in the process of booking it will show which cabins are sold but only in the category you're looking at.

If you take me serious, it's your problem

Bah!! i had thought as much, but was hopeful i was wrong. I imagine they don't disclose that info is so no one can hedge their chances of getting an upgrade, or OBC... but aside from that i think it would really be a great tool to help give people an idea if a ship has a cabin in their category, or part of the ship they like their cabins in. As we know some prefer Aft, while others prefer midships, etc... It just seems like an unnecessary chore to have to begin a booking process only to find out that there are no cabins in your category, where you prefer your cabin to be.. and having to only restart another booking process.

I feel the same as MisterD. So many times I've wished I could just see a deck plan for the whole ship, with every open cabin highlighted. Then I could spot the cabin I want. Who cares what they call the cabin category, I'll just look at the price after I find the cabin. If I can't afford it, I'll look for my second choice, and so on. It would be a thousand times easier, for those times we want two cabins close to each other, but not necessarily in the same category.
