Is this happening where you live?

Okay, one of my pet peeves....

Around here, there seems to be this new trend where people completely disregard stop signs and just come barreling out onto a main road without stopping!

It seems to be the young people doing it most times. They pull out of their driveway and start down their street going really fast and then just whip out onto the main street without any stop!!!

It drives me nuts! I'm finding myself slamming on the brakes to avoid hitting one of these nut-cases!

Everyone is in such a hurry, and I guess it's "me-first" attitude....

Do any of you see much of this around your parts? Just curious???

Are you kidding stop signs are a laugh here. They are running red lights here and causing accidents all the time. I have never in my life seen it before. Here they see a yellow light and speed up instead of slowing for the red.

Everyone is in a hurry and for what?

There is someone on my street that does that EVERYDAY when I am on my way to the bus stop to pick up my DD. Makes me nuts!

Where do all of you live? It does not seem to be a trend here in the Ohio.

Although, one change in trafic patterns that I've really noticed lately, seems to be an overall increase in speed. I confess to driving a few miles over the limit much of the time, but lately if I'm going 70 on the freeway, I'm being left in the dust, with cars constantly whizing by so fast they are merely a blur. I don't think it was always this bad.

NOt only does this happen where I live but the some of the kids do the same on bicycles. They come flying out from a side street never looking and just turn right. I have had to stop my car numerious times bcause of this.

Alright, I admit it. I hate stop signs. I think if there's no one around and it's perfectly safe, you shouldn't have to stop, but you should have to slow down enough to see if it's safe to proceed. I also don't think there should be a speed limit if the conditions are safe to allow those speeds.

Yes, I am a bad driving roll model. :grin My sons tell me that all the time, but they also say I'm the best driver in the family too.

I also think 95% of the driving public should not be on the road! :lol

Alright, let me have it.... :grin

I have to admit...driving in California is the most frightening I have ever experienced....next would be Florida.

It seems everyone in those two states does their driving with a cell phone in one hand and a coffee in the other! No offense, it just what we noticed on the freeways :)

And sometimes, they're text-messaging on those cell phones! =eek That's one thing I don't do - I rarely ever use my cell phone while driving. DH is on his 90% of the time while driving. :nono

Our Govenator just passed a law that 16 & 17 yr. olds cannot use their cell phones AT ALL - even with Bluetooth. Too bad he didn't have that apply to adults too! =dunno

I absolutely LOVE to drive!!! =love =love =love

I haven't seen much it around here.
I noticed when I was teaching my daughter to drive, the kids followed the rules and the seniors ignored them. ie; u turns where they were forbidden, stopping upon entering the freeway, changing lanes without signaling. I lived 1/4 of a mile from Leisure Village and 1 mile from the High School. Believe me, my friends from the Village would tell me horror stories about how their counterparts would drive.

And they wonder why there is so much road rage. Driving in Southern Cal is like driving on a race track. The general attitude on the roads are "me first, me first". Can you tell that I hate to commute?

Here there is a lot of road rage and speeding. Intersections are dangerous. I don't drive anymore and I think I am glad about that.
I miss the independence but I sure don't miss the hassle!

We have what is called a St Louis stop, which is briefly touching your brakes, then going on at stop signs. I live at the bottom on a steep hill, and we have a semi major road running past. People go by here so fast, and squeal brakes forever all hours of the night. Some guy coming down the hill not too long ago missed the stop sign and went right under the home on the corner.

When I moved here, I was surprised that 10 miles from my former city could mean such a difference in driving. People here are nuts. I was nearly killed on Walmart's lot right after I moved here. Some nut coming down one of the aisles was going so fast, that when he saw me at the corner, he hit his brakes so hard his front bumper touched the concrete! Threw his girlfriend against the glass.

Now when I do something stupid driving, I just tell myself oh well, I live here now!

Bobbie .... I'm glad you took your JAG away !!!!

Liz...... I saw Alf stop the other day/ I was proud of him lol.

Yes it seems that where ever we go these days the rolling stop is the norm. I used to tell my "Guys" that "They didn't have a quota. They could write as many tickets as they wanted/"

I guess there's just to many other things a go'n on for a Stop sign to have any priority.

I also think that it won't be all that long before it's a much bigger mess that we can afford and then we will return to the "New York" solution. Deal with the small stuff first and the mssg. floats upwards.

I can only hope.

I live less than a mile away from a three way stop with a flashing red light. People just don't know what that means! What I see all the time: someone will stop and then procede and the person behind them thinks they can go too, but without stopping! I just don't get it. Flashing red means "stop", not "slow down" and see if you can get away with it. :nope

(td) Oh Do come and drive downunder in Australia. Not only do we drive
on the other side of the road, the driver & pax have reversed seating
but we have a whole range of traffic rules that drivers just love to
break.
SOH has all the licenses for big rigs, buses, cabs and limos. He is driving
home in the early hours of a morning. Driving happily along doing the
speed limit. And he got stopped by the Highway Patrol. Why? Because he
was driving under the speed limit. Go Figure.

After years of working in the ER I try not to be a bad driver. But it
takes a lot of effort.
