Is this St. Thomas excursion schedule possible?

We'll be on the Navigator on May 29 in St. Thomas. We'll be there from 8am-6pm. Thsi is what I'm hoping to do, but I wonder if I'll be able to fit it all in.

8:30-12:00 - BOB

I want to take the ferry over to St. Johns to snorkle and hang out a the beach. Go jewelry shopping AND hit the Hard Rock for a mug. When will I have time to eat?

I'm thinking about doing the Bob/Stuart Cove's SUB in the Bahamas, but I haven't heard anything about it. We don't have any plans for Bahamas yet.

The ferry is 45 min each way from CA or 20-30 min from Red hook, but then you have to take a 10 minute cab to get there. If this is all you wnat to do you will have ample time. There are pleny of restraunts in Cruz Bay.

It is a little to optimistic time wise. 8:30 is probably about the earliest you will be able to get off the ship. If you stop at a foreign (Nassau/St. Martin, etc.) port before St. Thomas the entire ship will have to clear customs. The ferry at Red Hook has the earlier schedule. However, if you miss the 9 a.m. ferry, you have to wait until 10. Once you get to Cruz Bay, you need to taxi to Trunk Bay which would be the closest spot for snorkeling. Now taxi's like to fill up before they move. You stay there for a few hours, return to ferry terminal and take the next ferry no matter where it is going; Charlotte Amalie is downtown or back to Red Hook. Now if you wish to shop, you do that and return to the ship for a late buffet lunch or room service. You are probably looking at a 3 p.m. return to the ship if shopping downtown is included. If shopping at Havensight is for you, you can be back a little earlier.
Bon Voyage

Don't rule out Saphire Beach in St Thomas. We originally had planned to go over to St John for the day when we were there a couple of weeks ago, but decided against spending all our time commuting. We spent the day at Saphire Beach instead and had a wonderful time without all the bother. There is snorkeling there as well and it never seemed too busy. It's very close to the Read Hook ferry terminal and only cost $8pp for a taxi ride from the port.

Have a great time whatever you plan to do:)

My daughter and I took a carnival cruise in Dec that stopped at St. Thomas. Since it was the first time there, I had no clue about the taxi or water ferry situation. We ended up getting a pretty cheap taxi from the ship to a ferry at Red Hook, it was nice to take a drive around the island a little, but I would recommend taking the water ferry that leaves from Charlotte Amalie Ferry Dock, the dock near where the cruise ship port is , it takes about 40min. It's cheaper!
I highly recommend going to St. John, it's absolutly beautiful. Leave the ship early, so you have time to get over there. Once you get to St. John, you'll take a taxi to the beach (which cost us about $4 per person), we went to trunk bay -there's also a fee to get into the beach but there is noone trying to sell you anything every 10min so the fee is worth it. There is also a place to rent snorkle gear or you can bring your own.
There's really good places to eat on St. John.
After we got back to St. Thomas from St. John we still had plenty of time for shopping. I didn't think the shopping was that great, especially the jewelry shopping.
Hope this helps.

Wouldn't the number of ships in port and the number of people on the island affect this?

check <a href=http://www.vinow.com/general_usvi/getting_here/usvi_cruise_ship.php>here</a> to see which ships will be in port the day you are at St. T

This is also a good site for general St. T information

Cheers
