Is Triumph a "newer" ship?

I have never tried Carnival and will be taking the Triumph in September.

I see a lot of posts about "taking one of the newer" ships...

Is Triumph considered a newer type ship?

Triumph entered service in 1999.That's not brand spanking new but for a ship it's not old.

We sailed Triumph last January and she was in very good shape. The carpets in the hallways have gotten a lot of bad press and deservedly so. They seem stained, even after they've been cleaned. We were told by the pursar that the carpet cleaning system leaves marks in the carpet which make it appear to be stained. They had ordered an entirely new cleaning system, which should be in place by now, which was supposed to resolve the problem. The only problem we noted was that someone had vandalized about half the elevators, by punching holes in their walls. The walls are a wood veneer that matches the overall decor of the Triumph (which is kind of tacky), but replacements for the damaged elevator panels had been ordered as well. Overall, we liked the Triumph and once those two issues are corrected, she should seem "nearly new." We especially enjoyed the two main shows, which deserve their reputation as the best at sea. (The chandelier in the show room, though, is also extremely tacky - what WERE they thinking?) The New York Deli was very good and most of the food in the dining room was good. We lucked out with an upgrade from an outside cabin to a balcony cabin about a week before the cruise for $100 total increase, so we were very happy in general. Our cabin steward was also excellent. One other nice feature is a retractable cover over one of the pools, which we needed on the last day cruising back to Miami, because it was chilly. The health club is also excellent. Have a great cruise.
