Island Cabins- what's your favorite location?

I've been reading a lot of information on these message boards about all the different ships, and it has been so very helpful. Everybody is so nice, and its great to have this resource. I need to make a decision very soon though, and I'm still somewhat confused about the cabins on the Island Princess. Specifically the mini-suites.
I hear some balconies are covered, some are partial, some are not at all. Does the Caribe deck have larger balconies, even on the bumpout ?
What about midship or aft locations? pros ? cons ? Can you enlighten me on this ?

Would really appreciate hearing some advice from previous cruisers on this ship...Thanks !

See other posting on"Cabin First timer"..:grin..the mini-suites are bigger on Caribe and the Balcony is bigger..but our heart is with the bump out mini-suite,on Aloha -A503....there are only 4 bump outs MIni-suites on Aloha,Baha, and Caribe,on the Coral and Island Princess ships....our Mini-suite balcony was completely covered.Because we liked it so much it's going to be locked down for our Island Princess 15 day LA. to Hawaii round trip cruising..sigh..we loved that room..and with 10 Sea Days I plan on being out there quite a bit..=love..good luck with research..I do not need a HUGE deck, it's just DH Mark and I....we like being mid and more to the top..not rolly/polly at all.for motion..and we walked a lot..to make the desserts not quite so lethal!!..:lol..hope you get lot's of info..:)..Joanne

Relax,

I too am somewhat confused but will share my understanding of the cabins/balconies of the Coral/Island. It might be easier to have a layout of the ship(s) handy. I called Princess the other day. I am hoping if I am wrong with my assumption someone will correct me.

First off the Caribe deck, category BA are the largest balconies on the ship, other than the full suites. This cabin category on the Caribe deck and including the "bump"out section mid ship the balconies are 1/4 covered 3/4 exposed.
The "bump out" section mid ship on the Caribe deck have a little smaller balcony cat BD, again 1/4, 3/4.

Now the "bump out" forward and aft on the Caribe and Baja deck these balconies are to be all covered. Some of these categories are mini suites and some are not. These balconies are a little smaller. It is my understanding that cat BD aft are covered where midship is 1/4, 3/4 in the bump out.

Cat AF mini suite on the Caribe/baja does not have a balcony.

The balconies on the Aloha decked are covered as well.

The balconies on the Dolphin decked are exposed including the mini suites on that deck.

I am not sure about the emerald deck.

As a rule I like midship cabins(with a balcony of course :lol) But if I were to sail this ship or any of the Grand Class ships I would book at least a mini suite. The main reason is the tub/shower combo. The shower in the other cabins, well lets just say, don't drop the soap or you are in big trouble. Good luck

Cruisecutie, after this my brain is fried. :lol

I forgot to mention, Caribe deck cat BA the balconies are aound 81 sq feet. The others are about 25 sq ft.

I was on the Golden in a BA and the balcony size was great. Did visit some friends with the smaller balcony. It was very uncomfortable with the 4 of us on this balcony.

I am on the island in Oct for Hawaii. I picked a BA on the Carib because of the balconey size. I was recently offered an upgrade but turned it down. Per my travel agent, the carib deck BA balcomies are are 9 by 9 and the mini- suite I was offered is 9 by 3. The over all size of both cabins are equal. They just enclose more of the mini-suite to give more interier room. I would rather sit on a balconey tout side than a larger sofa on the inside

Thanks for your help everybody. This is exactly the kind of information I was looking for. The book diagram wasn't real clear, but it does show what appears to be smaller balconies for the four (AE) mini's on Caribe, than what is offered with the (BA) Balcony on the same deck - just as Marc confirmed for me. (Thanks!)
All things being weighed out, we just made our decision this morning, and opted for the mini anyways.(Cabin C416) Its on the midship bumpout on Caribe, front corner, so we should have a great view, and we favored the larger bathroom and more living space for an Alaska trip. It's just husband & I, so I think this will be a good choice.
At least now, with all the insight everybody has offered, I know what to expect when I get there. Thanks for taking your time to help me out.
I really appreciate it !

Definitely a mini-suite that is mid-ship in a fully exposed balcony!! We love having the stars right above us at night and the sun during the day!!
