Any one sailed the Island Princess? We are booked on her round trip to Alaska 4/15/04. We would appreciate any info about your experience.

The Island Princess is one of the most beautiful ships afloat. We had a wonderful cruise on her in October 2003. We enjoyed the food, activities and entertainment. I suppose it really boils down to personal likes and dislikes. Like i said before, we truly enjoyed her. :cheers happy cruising !

Sailed on the Coral Princess over this past Thanksgiving and then on the Island Princess over Christmas.

This class ship is stunning.

Make sure that you go to the Bayou Cafe, we did two times and enjoyed it very much, the night we went to Sabitinis was also outstanding.

My favorite ship. In my mind Princess has the perfect design with her and the Coral.

Just back from the Island Princess cruise to the Panama Canal. The ship is beautiful. Still new and clean. It's well laid out and easy to get around. There is an indoor and outdoor pool so the weather won't stop you from taking advantage of the water. There are two outdoor grills near the pool. One that serves pizza and one that serves grilled sandwiches and french fries. The lounges are very well decorated with various themes. The balcony of the Universe lounge however does not offer very good vantage points of the stage. Stick to the groud floor there. The ship never seemed all that crowded and it was sold out. Don't wait until the last minute to get to the shows though. The good seats fill up fast especially the comedy shows. The rooms were very nice and roomy, but we had a minisuite. The main difference I heard was a regular cabin has a very small shower and a very small sitting area. You're not there much anyway.
We went to Alaska three years ago with Princess. It's a vacation that will be hard to beat. With this ship and the Alaskan scenery you can't help but have a great time. You are in for a treat. Enjoy.

Can anyone with experience on the Island or Coral Princess give me an opinion on whether it is worth an extra $200 a person to upgrade from a regular balcony cabin to a mini-suite?

We have only had one other balcony cabin, on Costa's Atlantica so we are mostly used to just regular outside cabins although we have our second balcony cabin on the Maasdam in May.

By the way this would be for a Hawaiian cruise with 8 full days at sea.

Thanks

We were on the Coral her sister ship just this last Feb. As far as I am concerned it is the right size ship. Not big or not too small. You will enjoy her. What a great ship.

In my opinion it is a toss up on upgrading to a mini. We had a hard time deciding but ended up with just the balcony and in the end were happy we didn't spend the extra to upgrade. The min-suites are nicer so it is really any individual choice. For the two of us the balcony was just fine for a 10 day cruise.

We originally had booked a regular cabin with a balcony but just before our final payment we were offered an upgrade for $179 total. We took it. The extra room lets you move around better when getting ready. There is a walk in closet area which is nice, but the big advantage is the full size tub with shower. People with the regular cabin complained about how small the shower was. We were glad we took it. My wife especially liked the extra room compared to our other cruises. If the extra money isn't a big deal take the minisuite. We were in cabin C227 on the Caribe deck forward. Our balcony was completely covered from above. Some are partially exposed to the cabin above because of the set backs of the decks, but all in our area were covered which adds to you privacy. In my opinion we had a great spot. Hope this helps you.

As CA says definitely do give the Bayou Cafe a try. :thumb IMO this is a Gr8 ship with state of the art lounges for shows. The Mini upgrade is a toughie as it depends on whether U spend a tremendous amount of time in your cabin. Personally if U have a Caribe Deck Balcony cabin I would stay with that as the balcony IMO is much bigger and a bit more private.
