Help Please!!! I really need help on this port and what to do. Not really into snorkeling while there, because I will be doing that at the other ports. Is there any historic tours that are good?

Just got back may 8th on Conquest. We were worried about the constant harrassment friends and others have experienced in montego bay while shopping. We snorkel, so we took the pirate boat to a reef and Margaritaville. BUT........ our friends went earlier this year, they went to Sunset Beach. At 20 dollars a person, they got all the food and drinks they wanted. This included alcohol. They just enjoyed the resort's beach and hung out there. It is guarded to keep locals out...
We did take a Juta Tour van to tour the city. (15 dollars a couple). They took us to a nice plantation home on top the hills overlooking the city. Nothing real historic though. Remember these folks are very poor and want dollars. So if you want shop....... you may want to re think shopping in Montego Bay...
Just our experience and opinion.

We did Dunns Rivers Falls and really enjoyed it. I would probably even do it again if I go back. It took about a 2 hour ride but the tour guide gave us all kinds of information on history and culture. Climbing the falls was a great experience...but it can wear you out. It's not that hard but we had a lot of laughs along the way as one of us would slip or fall. It was a good slip or fall...nobody got hurt.

We went to Montego Bay in Febuary this year. We spent the entire day at SunSet Beach. It is well worth the $20 per person. We are going back again next March. Will more than likely spend more time at Sun Set Beach.

DH and I were there last November and took the tour to the Croydon Plantation. It's about a 45 minute drive through the countryside (roads are kind of bumpy). The plantation was very pretty and the views were excellent. We were treated to fresh honey, many varieties of pineapple, sugar cane, and other types of produce grown at the plantation. Also included was an excellent lunch of jerk chicken, plantains, and rice and beans. The proprieter was very personable as well. We had a great time.
