January Cruising

My hubby and I have only taken summer vacations, and now we are thinking of going on a cruise in January. Are there many differences? I know on our previous summer cruises that we had a lot of kids onboard. Are there less during the winter months?

When traditional school is in session, there will be less kids on the cruise. However, your choice of cruise lines and cruise length will also have an effect on the number of children. The shorter the cruise, the more kids. More kids on Disney or Carnival or RCI then on Crystal, HAL or Celebrity. As to any other comparisons, it would be easier if you said what area you cruised in last time (Alaska, Mexican Riviera, Caribbean ...) and what area you are looking at this time.

Well we have been on three cruises in January and have never been bothered by kids. I am sure there were kids on board but I guess not that many as we didn't notice.

As you can see from my signature we almost always cruise in January. Rates are relatively low and there will be very few children. In fact, I wish there were more children because they bring energy and life to whatever is going on. But, it's definitely nice not to be overrun by kids. There are also are not usually many college kids, so we don't have the spring break scene going on in January. The weather is a few degrees cooler in the Caribbean and can actually be cool at times in the Bahamas and southern Floriday, but overall we've had excellent weather. It is also less humid in the winter than in the summer. We intend to continue cruising in January until we retire and start cruising more exotic ports like Alaska, the Mediterranean, and northern Europe, all of which would be best in the warm weather. Have a great cruise!
