Anyone going to Panama and what do you think of the train trip to Panama City

Hi Bill - We are going 2/20/2009... 
We are doing the Ferry through the locks. After traversing the Gatun Locks we'll set anchor (I presume) in Gatun Lake and off load the passengers who are taking an excursion. Our is a bus ride to the Pacific side and then the ferry through the two locks over there.
Others have done the train trip and enjoyed it very much. Hopefully they will chime in.

Folks,
My wife and I are ready to go, but we have limited knowledge of the excursions available in Panama. I am told they have to be the RCL tours. We would prefer to limit our Bus rides. or taking extended (hours) trips on local transportation due to some problems we have experienced in the past in other Caribbean stops. If anyone has some suggestions for Panama or the stop in Costa Rica it would be helpful for us. We were thinking of doing some of the tree top rain forest stuff in Costa Rica. I just hope the earthquake reported today in the interior was not too bad. My prayers are with the residents there and we wish them the best.
We have been to the other stops on the cruise, other than Columbia. May not even get off the boat when we get to Jamaica. We stopped there last year and it was not real pleasant. We certainly try not to be "ugly American's", but some of the areas we were in made my wife very uncomfortable. We would like to get our excursions booked soon so any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Hi grayj12000 - as far as excursions go, I would just go on the RCL website and see what they have to offer. That is what we did. OK. You have me lost here. Are you sailing on the Jewel OTS 2/20/09 - Panama Canal cruise? When are we stopping in Jamaica????
