I have seen many recommendations for Captain Larry. Has anyone ever used Dolphin Tours? We have a group of 17 and would be on a private boat if we use Dolphin Tours. I have nothing against traveling with other people, (I know Captain Larry only takes 23), but their will be a 6 month old in our group that may not think this is such a cool idea..... Would hate to possibly ruin someone else's excursion! Thanks for any info!

I have read many good posts about Dolphin Tours on the various cruise boards. I personally have not used them but they normally are recommended as highly as Capt. Larry.

Capt Larry has a 2nd (smaller) boat that they often use for private trips - have you contacted Capt Larry and enquired about this?

We have taken both Captain Larry's tour and the whale watching tour offered by the cruiseline (Princess). IMHO, the cruiseline tour was much better. Reasons are that, despite what they say, Captain Larry's boat is very crowded. The snacks were better on the cruiseline tour and the boat on their tour was more stable (catamaran vs single-hull). Everyone shares info on the whales via radio, so everyone converges on the available whales. There is a reason that the cruiselines don't contract with Captain Larry.

GKarschnick I have also used the tours from the ship. They are far more crowded the boats are much higher up from the water and much slower getting to the whales. If you go on Capt Larry's boat you will find that the naturalists from the cruise lines use him because their chances of seeing whales are much better than on the cruise line tours. They get to go on the cruise line tours free they pay for Capt Larry. That deffinately gives me an impression that Capt Larry is better. I have done both ship tours and Capt Larry and in my mind there is no contest. Capt Larry wins hands down. JMHO
